8th grade, 8th grade from the opening day to the signing of the yearbooks. This is the year of memories, goodbyes, and regrets. 8th grade and I’m still realizing that there are people in the world that would die to go to a school like this. A school where every body knows everyone’s name, respects everyone, and where violence and fighting are about as common as the Yankees missing the playoffs. When I’m done with my homework and go to bed, as the days of 8th grade wind down, summer will come and go, and I will find myself in one of those giant, scary places called high school.

I am a average 8th grader who would be honored to attend an early College High School. I would appreciate attending Clear Horizons High School for the reason of extending my learning capability and challenging my thinking. If I were to attend Clear Horizons High School my expectations would be to insure I will be not only going to college but finishing a bachelors degree. My main obstacle as a student is being too nervous to ask questions and speak in front of the class.
Along with my former eighth grade classmates, expectations were hesitant, uncertain, and frightened. Disney World is one of the happiest places on earth; middle school, not so much. Every kid goes through those horrendous awkward years, and over time comes out of it thanking “God that it’s over”. Whether it be braces, baby fat, or a color-blind sense of style, the pre-adolescent stage is definitely the worst. Every time I look back on those dreadful years I cringe, but I know they’ve shaped who I am today.

My ardent desire to acquire knowledge has motivated me to pursue higher studies at graduate level, and to take up a career in research in industry. Through these fun and challenging times each one of us has built strong relationships. Whether it was with friends or a teacher, we have developed connections and memories that will be with us forever, even if we lose contact with those individuals. Some students have discovered they have a passion for writing through a creative writing class or want to have a career in business from taking Mr. Ide’s inspirational marketing classes. Others have participated in CLIP or summer school to catch up and make it possible for them to be here today. I went to Heights Elementary and have spent the last 12 years with the same group of people. Attending school with the people I’ve known since elementary and middle school, and making homecoming posters with them for four years in a row, has given me a chance to get to know the people around me better than I ever thought I would.
The journey of life follows a predetermined pattern; we evolve from needing influence and guidance to finally reaching that point where our lives are up to us. I consider myself very lucky up to this point in my journey. Some people become sidetracked and wind up on a far different course than initially planned, but the detours I made have only assisted in embellishing the individual instead of devouring it.
Sitting in the crowded, sound-blasted lunchrooms and seeing each other around school, we would talk and have a tremendous time together, helping to make our friendship stronger. The school district I attended, Waukee, was an amazing place to learn and grow up. The schools that I attended at Waukee provided an excellent learning environment, with their spacious classrooms and helpful teachers. The teachers always asked, “What can I do to help?” making sure every student understood the material. Many students can only wish to attend a school with so many opportunities and exceptional academics, yet it took me many years to realize how fortunate I was to attend such an outstanding school.
