When my father brought home our first scooter, I was just a kid then. As a curious kid, I wanted to know what it was. “It’s a machine that will take us and go vrooom” said my father. Quite surprisingly, to myself, I did not want to go ‘vrooom’, but instead wanted to understand what it takes to build a machine like this. “Engineering skills’’ said my father and little did I know that my journey towards becoming an Engineer had already begun. From then on, I created a penchant towards engineering and the undying desire coupled with consistent scores of above 90% in my high school examinations helped me to obtain a place in PSG College of Technology, one of the top 5 private engineering colleges in India.
I completed my Bachelor of Engineering from the Department of Production Engineering (Sandwich) of PSG College of Technology. The course was unique not only because of the time-frame but also the methodology that was framed with a view of imparting practical knowledge and Industrial skills to help the students in their professional careers and entrepreneurial ventures. Ever since I began studying science and mathematics at all levels of educations I have always had an interest in the production of useful materials. In the growing turmoil of today; a world full of global warming and diminishing resources, questions often arise in my mind such as, "can we make a more efficient, more durable and a renewable resource that will overshadow fossil fuels? and have less of an impact on our environment?" Up to now, I have not found a solution to these questions and answering these questions is a personal aspiration of mine which I aim to fulfil by achieving a degree in Chemical engineering and eventually I will contribute to the field in my own unique way. The debate surrounding sustainable energy fascinates me, having recently learned from personal research I have understood what an authoritative role chemists and chemical engineers play in the industry at the present time and how, by working as a team, they contribute to an improved future for the whole world. However, one of the main reasons that has single-mindedly driven me this far to want to study chemical engineering is a book I have read, “Beyond the Molecular Frontier: Challenges for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering” While reading this book, I had solidified my understandings of what chemical engineering is all about. Also, one of the main processes mentioned was polymerisation and is something I already study in A-level chemistry, it is something that not only interests me, but is a personal career aspiration of mine. Reading this book gave me a determination to be the person who helps improve the future of the industry and provide an answer to the questions I always ask myself by studying this degree.
I am writing this Statement of Purpose to reinforce my admission to graduate school. My purpose for applying to Texas Tech University is to expand my existing knowledge and to create additional opportunities for myself in the future. I believe that the graduate school will prepare me for a successful and challenging career in Industrial Engineering with specialization in Operation Research and Engineering Management. My dream to be an expert in Industrial Engineering had not emerged with my early schooling.
Ever since I was a child, I have had a great interest for the automotive industry. From car trivia to novel innovations, my innate passion for the automotive industry has always made me research the minutest detail of every vehicle that interested me. Since elementary school I would draw sketches of cars which incorporated technology which were unheard of at that time; novel devices such as electrochromic windshields, HUD displays, and wind turbines which would constantly re-generate electricity for the car. While growing up, my hobbies largely consisted of constructing countless Lego and Meccano sets, and repairing my mom’s 19 year-old car. In middle school, math and science were my favorite subjects: applying science and mathematics to solve real-world problems has fascinated me and I have also taken further steps to reach my goals. By the age of thirteen I devised a scaled model of a heliostat power plant, which successfully powered a light bulb. The mathematics beyond the focus points of parabolic dishes and thermodynamics was very advanced for my age, but I took up the challenge...
At this stage of my life, I have many ambitions, the first step of which is to carry out my Masters studies in Automotive Engineering. Attending U.K. universities is surely a dream for distinguished students all over the world, especially the ones who are passionate about education. Secondly and a more subtle reason being acquiring a degree that has global recognition has become a necessity if one desires to carve out a niche for oneself in this increasingly global economy. Given a chance I shall prove my worthiness.

I was quite impressed after seeing a small chip for the first time in my school days, especially after I learnt that it contained more than 1000 transistors, “integrated circuits”. I did my schooling from Merry Land High School, in an idyllic atmosphere where I gradually flourished as a versatile person. Then I joined Vision Pu College, where I explored extracurricular activities other than academics; which helped me evolve as an extrovert child. This encouragement and involvement helped me to have an open and a positive attitude in life. I actively participated in Inter School Soccer Competitions.
Right from my school days, I have always shown a high degree of competence and interest in subjects like Mathematics and Science. I scored 88 marks in Mathematics & 84 marks in Science in Secondary School (10th standard). It was with this motivation that I took up the Science stream in my senior school. I completed my senior school with first class grade. My fairly good performance at secondary and senior school gave me the confidence to take Engineering as my career.
A versatile individual and an ardent learner in all my chosen fields is how I perceive myself today. My childhood provided me a strong base of integrity and honesty upon which I have built a diverse skill set and a strong commitment to success. I opted for civil engineering as my undergraduate major at G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, where my knowledge was enhanced by studying courses on Transportation Engineering and thus my liking for this field become much stronger. During second year of under graduation I went for training in Public Works Department, where I had a practical experience about pavement design and construction.
From my perspective, excellent electronic engineers are a group of gifted and imaginative talents who bravely explore and innovate, change the world with passion and innovation. I have always dreamed of becoming one of them. For realizing this dream, I started from China 's Jilin University and then joined The University of Manchester for BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering to take more advanced professional courses. In UoM, I managed to gain GPA of 4.0. Yet, my pursuit of the dream does not end there, since I plan to apply for M.S. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Carnegie Mellon University, where I can receive the best education among the world.
