Texas is one of the seven states that have no state income tax. This means the state does not impose an additional state income taxes on someone’s earnings, but there is still a federal income tax. While many claim this is beneficial to all of Texas citizens and promotes population growth others find it disadvantaging. Their is many disadvantages and advantages to not having a state income tax.
The disadvantages of having no state income is that everything around people increases in price. Just because the state does not receive a percent from worker’s earnings, does not mean they do not find other ways to tax them. As a result the state imposes taxes through other ways to receive money. Their is higher property taxes, higher than average expenses, and less state funding. A study by Lincoln Institute of Land Policy says “Effective property tax rates on owner-occupied housing in Texas are the fourth-highest in the United States and about 58 percent above the median rate for all state.” (Aycock, Whitehouse, McKenzie, 2016)

There is less state funding for local community, educational, and healthcare programs.
“Texas has no income tax and no state property tax, so our schools depend heavily on local property taxes”( 2nd work c). Since this is the main way to fund these programs local property taxes are higher. This affects children who attend Texas’ public schools, a state income tax makes it easier to gather money to fund children's public
Proposition 30 (prop 30 or SB11) is supported by the schools and local public safety protection Act of 2012. Prop 30 is a tax initiative led by California governor Jerry Brown. Prop 30 is aimed at reducing forecasted budget cuts to public schools also higher education, by increasing the California sales tax from 7.25% to 7.50%for the next four years. It also will create three new tax brackets for taxable incomes. Incomes exceeding $250,000, $300,000 and $500,000 will pay more in taxes for the next seven years. With the extra money being saved will go towards adding more classes for higher education students. Texas is the second largest state in the country and there are four different geographical regions: the Gulf coastal plain, the interior lowlands, Great Plains, and the basin and range province, Each region has contributed to the economic development of the state. The Texas
Texas is a unique place with a colorful history of legendary cowboys and tall tales. The state stretches over the middle section of the southern United States. Texas has experienced shifts in governmental control within the United States. French, Spanish, Mexican, and Confederacy, and all having once been in charge, not to mention the time Texas spent as an independent republic. Texas has had many battles and wars within its borders, resulting in seven different constitutions within a span of fifty years between each document.
The state of Texas was the 28th state added to the United States of America on December 29, 1845 . At the time, it was the largest state in the US and would remain that until the inclusion of Alaska into the US in January 3, 1959. Texas became a state because of the diverse political strife, military success, and because of nationalism , over the course of 80 years. It starts as just a province of Spanish Mexico empire, and would eventually become the Lone Star State.
Texas politics is an interesting ecosystem of power, rules and regulations. Of course, in typical Texas fashion, most of the politics we engage in we do our own way. From governors who stay in office for a decade to our extremely diverse demographics, Texas is extremely unique. This uniqueness of course comes with its critics, benefits, and downsides. This is particularly true with the Texas Court system compared to both the federal courts and many other states.
Texas will become a better state in education conditions and economically. Families all over Texas will have a better chance on making sure there students attend college. College students will worry less in having to pay for college classes, books, or even their own needs like clothes or food. Loans will be much easier to receive. With the community reviving, Texas will become a greater state bringing in more benefits for the people and for the nation
While there are benefits to no longer having federal oversight, a number of issues need to be addressed in order for the Lone Star State to remain self-sustaining. I think secession would drastically reduce the quality and quantity of state-run programs offered, due to one third of Texas’ budget being subsidized by the federal government. Without the additional federal funding, I imagine many programs would be restructured or even shut down entirely. Medicaid, for example, is a program that I believe would not survive. The growing costs coupled with the loss of financial support would make it unsustainable. Secession would also introduce the need for more special districts and new government departments in order to deal with issues that are currently handled by the federal government. So far, from a financial and public service standpoint, it doesn’t really look like the wisest choice to

Texas has a rich and long history and much of it has passed through the state over the years to become a part of its folklore. This Texas folklore is part of many cultures within the state and has even filtered outside the state. The first cultural influence on Texas was from the Paleo-American Indians. When these Indians arrived they were in a bit of a culture shock when they met the Spanish in the 16th century. In the following centuries, more people began to arrive in Texas and they brought new ways of talking, believing and doing things. The Spanish and the Mexican set the patterns south of Nueces and along the Rio Grande. Anglos brought their ways of life from the British Isles to the South and Eastern part of Texas. African Americans who came to work on the plantations on the Brazos and Trinity bottoms brought songs, stories and beliefs that came with them from Africa. Germans came directly from the Old World to the Hill Country, Cajuns came from France and eventually through Louisiana and settled in Southeast Texas. The Dutch, Danes, Polish, Czechs, Norwegians who also came here brought with them their ways of life and they all became bound together to become part of Texas. By the year 2000, Texas was made up of 54.5% Anglos, 31% Hispanic, 11.4% African Americans and another 3.1% of other ethnicities.
Therefore, in many urban areas, the state ratio of funding remains significantly lower than 50 percent; out of the three entities, the federal government allocates the least amount of funding. Residents in these areas who are under-educated or without a high school diploma have a greater possibility of using drugs, committing crimes or unplanned pregnancies.... ... middle of paper ... ... Since people in the suburban and affluent areas have better homes, they can add a tax levy to help support their education, according to state and local guidelines.
State government plays an integral part in the political system from allowing citizens to have multiple access points to influence policy to providing grants to improve communities. Local governments are a part of that state government which couldn’t function without the role that local communities contribute. State governments give their residents an opportunity to feel connected and influential in the policy making process. If America was only governed at the national level and not the federal level then the interests of the everyday citizen could not be heard. It would be more like a class system where only the elite had access to influence the policy makers. They also provide services that the federal government may not feel the need to implement yet or just to see how it works out within the states. “It was states that designed the first family leave legislation giving workers ti...
