Introduction In order for a company to be successful, there needs to be a plan. This is not just any type of plan either. Each year new businesses open and when researching why many are out of business within the first year, the answer is simple; they fail to develop an effective strategy. Countless of businesses over the years. Further research of these businesses will show they lack having a solid mission, vision, and value statement, which is important to both internal and external customers. Businesses are out of the mental mindset of generating the most revenue will make them successful. Southwest Airlines is a very successful airline despite their competition. The number of airlines throughout the country continue to dwindle down, due to one of the big four airlines buying them up. Just within the past 8 months, Virgin Airlines became part of Alaska Air Group during a $2.6 billion buyout (Hugo Martin, 2016). This is a perfect example of implementing one of the five P’s. This is a ploy of Alaska Airline Group to create stiffer competition for Southwest in larger airports on the west coast. Looking closer at Southwest and their success, they have been success as their mission and vision are both appeasing to their internal and external customers. Who would not like to work for an organization that recognizes their employees for their work and going above and beyond. Their values are short and to the point #warrior spirit, #servant’s heart # Fun-LUVing attitude are all values to live by. These are values that Southwest customers could also live by daily. Additionally, their work values are so simple, yet many organizations and individuals never execute. Next time you are performing a task that has risk complete the task as if you were working the Southwest way, #safety and reliability, #friendly customer service, #execute lowest cost possible. One key thing to remember is Tracy (2015) talks about is how we all expose our values, or our employer’s values through our conduct day in and day out. Another strategy ploy Southwest uses against the competitor, which is align with their vision in becoming the world’s most flown airline is by not assigning seats, instead they board and seat by section (Southwest Airlines, 2017).
