Similarities to Teiresias, the Blind Prophet

¨It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.¨ -Henry David Thoreau. In Antigone, there is a blind prophet named Teiresias who lives in the core of a thicket that lies on the outskirts of Thebes. He has really good ties to the gods and helps a lot of people out by seeing their future. You might think that there is really nobody that can compare or relate to Teiresias, but you would be surprised. Out of all of the characters in Sophocles´ play Antigone, Teiresias is the one person I correlate with the most. We both have pretty much the same relationships, appearance/surroundings, and attitudes towards everything. We each have a deeper meaning and understanding on life.

Initially, Teiresias and I have very similar relationships. Teiresias is usually friendly to people who are affable back or when he is not concentrating on something. I like to be nice to other people who are at least pleasant to be around. He has four siblings and not very many close friends. Teiresias can change even the most stubborn of people's minds. When he was convincing Creon, who is an extremely stubborn man, to let Polyneices be buried so the gods will be at ease, Creon refused at first but eventually gave in (5.93). I am also pretty good at persuading since I can change my parent's mind whenever they won't let me do something on several occasions. Teiresias can be mean, but he just wants the best for some people. "These are no trifles! Think: all men make mistakes, but a good man yields when he knows his course is wrong, and repairs the evil.
