Soccer is a ball sport played between two teams of eleven players. The purpose of the game is about a process between two teams to score by getting the ball into opposing goal. In order to do that, players in soccer game entail physical contact and commonly cause various kinds of injuries. Three types of the most common injuries in a soccer game are soft-tissue injury, joint injury, and bony injury. The first type of the most common injury in a soccer game is soft-tissue injury. It is a type of injury that causes overstretching of a ligament and affects to a condition where the muscle fails to relax. This type of injury often occurs during the early or late stages of the game, as a result of inadequate warm-up and poor flexibility. Soft-tissue injury mostly occurs on the thigh area. According to Thomas Reilly and A. Mark Williams (2003, 140), authors of science and soccer, “Nearly a quarter of soccer-related injuries involve the thigh, and a further 10% the groin.” Mostly they result from a quick forceful stretch of the muscle in an attempt to accelerate for the ball. The treatment of this type of injury, according to Reilly and Williams (2003, 144), “is to control haematoma formation and let the body’s mechanisms repair the damaged tissue.” …show more content…
Joint injury commonly occurs as a result of physical contact or high tackle during the game. This type of injury commonly occurs on the knee and ankle. According to Reilly and Williams (2003, 141), “17% of all injuries to soccer players occur on the knee and ankle area.” Therefore, those areas are critical and easy to injure in the soccer game. Reilly and Williams (2003, 142) describe that physiotherapist can strengthen the joint and educate the player about the importance of rehabilitation. Therefore, physiotherapist has an important role in the treatment for this type of
The majority of ACL injuries can be defined as ‘non-contact’ (without direct trauma to knee joint), which occur during various sporting activities involving high risk dynamic movements ⁶ ¹¹. The mechanism involved in non-contact ACL injury during sporting activities is commonly attributed to foot planting, pivoting, decelerating or side cutting movements ¹². The need for further investigation into the aforementioned non-contact ACL injury mechanisms and risk factors is facilitated by continuing high incidence rates, long recovery periods and economic burdens ³ ¹¹. The remainder of the current review will primarily look into the association between biomechanics and ...
Hamstring injuries are one of the most common injuries in sports. They are especially common in sports that require a high degree of power and speed such as soccer and Gaelic football. (Sports Medicine Australia).

There are many injuries in general, but sports injuries? Sprains and Strains are the most common injuries in sports. “Sprains are injuries to ligaments, the tough bands connecting in a joint. Suddenly stretching ligaments past their limits deforms or tears them” (Hoffman 1). Ligaments are like springs in a sense that when you stretch a spring, it will return to it’s normal state unless they are
The majority of ACL injuries suffered during athletic participation are of the noncontact variety. Three main noncontact mechanisms have been identified planting and cutting, straight-knee landing and one-step stop landing with the knee hyperextended. Pivoting and sudden deceleration are also common mechanisms of noncontact ACL injury. Basketball, soccer, and volleyball consistently produce some of the highest ACL injury rates across various age groups. Other activities with a high rate of injury are gymnastics, martial arts, and running. In most sports, injuries occur more often in games than in practice. Many injuries have occurred during the first 30 minutes of play. One-reason physicians are seeing more ACL injuries in female patients that more women play sports, and they play more intensely. But as they continued to do more studies, they are finding that women's higher rate of ACL is probably due ...

So what causes athletes to tumble to the ground? According to the Osteoarthritis Health Center, “The knee is a vulnerable joint.” The knee is a complex system, made up of many parts that are made like delicate pieces of glass; they can easily be destroyed. The knee is formed by tendons, cartilage, ligaments, muscle, and some bone (Web MD). All of these components are sensitive pieces of the body. The Knee Pain Health Center suggests that the knee experiences wear and tear every day from a variety of activities. Sports, running, and even walking wear down the building blocks of the knee; the most common worn part is cartilage. Knees injuries are unpredictable. Aggressive actions, also suggested from the Knee Pain Health Center, includes any twisting or forceful turning. A swing of a bat, or winning tackle, puts the knee at risk for injury. Athletics that are dangerous to the knee include softball, basketball, volleyball, hockey, baseball, gymnastics, and football (Web MD).
About 2-5 people a game come off for treatment or off for the rest of the match. This is why it is mandatory to wear shinguards whether indoor or outdoor and because of that reason, soccer can be quite dangerous. Common injuries include: groin, hamstring, calf pulls and tears, Hip Flexors, Dead Leg, and broken toes. Most injuries are the waist and below, But that does not mean that there are no head or chest injuries either. This is why soccer is sometimes dangerous and it is mandatory to wear the right equipment.
In the world of athletics there are numerous injuries an athlete may face in their participation in athletic activities. Injuries can hinder an athlete’s participation in practices or games. For example, there are sprained ankles, pulled hamstrings, broken backs, concussions, and foot injuries can prevent an athlete from competing. While all of these injuries and the areas they are located in can greatly affect an athlete’s ability to participate in athletic activity, there is one area of the body that stand out greater than the rest. This area is an injury to the knee. Knee injuries are devastating to an athlete’s participation. Some knee injuries depending on the severity of the injury, can keep an athlete out of participation from their
High school football players sustain a major proportion of season injuries. A major part of these regions are due to ligament sprains, targeted stretching exercises may be beneficial. The most injured players were those with the position of running back and linebackers. In the 2005-2006 season there were more than half a million injuries nationally of high school football players. This data was collected from over 100 high school football teams.
In a soccer game there are two teams of 11 players who try to score a point by kicking a ball into the opponents net. Soccer is played on a rectangular field with a net on each short side of the field. All players must hit the ball with their feet or body and only the goalie is allowed to touch the ball with his/her hands. There are many things you can do to condition yourself to play.
ACL injury is quite prevalent in the United States. About every 1 in 3,000 people suffer from an ACL injury in their lifetime, and approximately 95,000 new incidences of ACL injury occur each year. The largest amount of these injuries occurs during sports which involve twisting, cutting, jumping and deceleration. The mechanisms that can cause an ACL injury are excessive valgus (outside of knee) stress, forced hyperextension, or forced external rotation of the femur on the a fixed tibia (Evans, 2001). Many associate the tearing of the ACL with a large impact or collision, however 80% of all ACL injuries are non-contact injuries. This statistic shows that ACL injuries are mostly caused by the individual themselves as opposed to an opponent or other person. The exact mechanism of noncontact ACL tears consists of poor knee positioning (e.g. landing with an extended knee) and a strong, unopposed quad contraction (Murray, 2013).
Also, it was stated that because of the elbow angle at foot stride and ball release that the shoulder joint was affected more so than at any other time. Finally, in order to understand why the injuries occur we should learn the joint ranges of motion so we can develop better preventive methods for injuries.
“In this surveillance study of injuries among US high school athletes participating in boys' football, girls' and boys' soccer, girls' volleyball, girls' and boys' basketball, boys' wrestling, boys' baseball, and girls' softball during the 2005–2006 school year, ankle injuries accounted for 22.6% of all injuries, with a total ankle injury rate of 5.23 injuries per 10 000 A-Es.”(Nelson 2007) As shown, ankle injuries are very common in sports. Football is one of the most accountable sports for ankle injuries for males with a percentage of “33.6% of all ankle injuries.” (Nelson
Traumatic injuries seem to occur a lot in the sport of football. Knee injuries seem to be one of the most occurring traumatic injuries in football (Become an Advocate for Sports Safety). The main types of traumatic knee injuries are: tearing/spraining of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), and the meniscus, which is the cartilage that is in the knee (Become an Advocate for Sports Safety). The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a very vital ligament in the knee. It is the main stabilizer of the knee. Surprisingly usually the anterior cruciate ligament is torn from a non-contact twisting of the knee (5 Most Common Football injuries (and How to Prevent Them)). The knee normally pops and it will begin to swell and it may feel unstable (5 Most Common Football injuries (and How to Prevent Them)). Swelling depends on the severity in the tear of the ligament. The anterior cruciate ligament is one of the four main ligaments that provide stability to the knee joint (Common Football Injuries). It is the most important out of the four. Injuries to any of the cruciate ligaments in the knee are most of the time sprains (Common Football Injuries). The anterior cruciate ligament being the most often stretched, strained, sprained or either tore (Common Football Injuries). Most of the knee injuries that occur in footbal...
