Sociology had never caught my attention prior to choosing my A-level options. I chose to study the subject on a whim, and it wasn’t until half way through the first term had the subject sparked my interest. Learning about gender differences in AS Sociology had fascinated me as it explored the differences between males and females within the education system and the family. This is why I think Year 2 of the degree course will appeal to me the most, as it will allow me to explore the topic deeper. Since taking Sociology as an A level, I have become more analytical in my thinking whilst observing everyday life. Further study outside the classroom is important to gain a better understanding of the topics being studied. I take on the responsible role of making sure I take the time to extend my knowledge and understanding. For example, whilst studying religion in Sociology, I watched documentaries on world-rejecting sects, such as “Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple” and “The Love Prophet and the Children of God”. …show more content…

I was motivated to do it as it offered opportunities that are not available in everyday life and the chance to experience living away from home. From this experience, I was able to gain confidence because it allowed me to interact and work in a team with people whom I’ve never met. From this programme, I was able to volunteer in order to help the community. I volunteered in a charity bookshop, which helped to show the importance of organisation and planning when it comes to success.
