The internet is extremely vast and the multitudes of people of the world have access to it. Now it has evolved into phones, so now it can be in the palm of our hand.This has given us faster ways to gain contact with others, and various different ways to do so as well. Social media is a satisfactory example of the faster contact we have. Since social media is on the internet many have access to this as well, including colleges and employers. That being said, and since the internet is open to everyone, colleges and employers should be able to check social media to help them pick the candidates, and observe what the applicants are advertising. So that being the case numerous campuses would like students on their most optimum behavior. Neither job, nor college would like to be humiliated by their people being nonsensical (Schiffman). These places need a positive reputation, so that people would like to come back. Countless people like to think checking social media is unethical, however that does not mean there is not something favorable coming out of it. “The social networking sites had a positive impact 25 percent of the time on admission”(Cartwright). Positive 25 percent shows that this is working in the applicants favor, so that means it should remain longer.
