Museums are marvelous institutes that allow the public access to historical information, however, this mean that people need to have the ability to be mobile and have transportation to the building. The creation of virtual museums has the ability to let some travel around the world without leaving the comfort of their home. As long as someone has the ability to access the internet, one might never need to actually travel to a museum. The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History (SNMNH) web page is extremely helpful with its virtual tour, exhibition guide, online collections, and much more. The SNMNH virtual tour was magnificent and effortlessly navigated with in the web page. It showed all of the open exhibits, even the cafeteria, past exhibits, and views of the outside grounds. From visiting past museum web pages, most did not have the option to look at past exhibits, only what was being displayed at the current date. I enjoyed how one is able to click each exhibit on the map and it gives you a close up view that one can explore the whole exhibit. The few critiques I have for the virtual tour aspect of the web page are minor and could be easily fixed. One of the problems for me was when you zoomed in to read the plaques they would start to be pixelated, so It was difficult to read. Another flaw was that the map and images at the bottom take up attest one third of the whole page, one had to navigate around them to actually see the rooms. If a person has a specific reason to visit, for example, to see an exact artifact, or look at a certain period of time, it is nice to know what is actually in the museum ahead of the visit. With a description of what the theme is of each exhibition, it is easy to determine what will be housed throughout the entirety of the museum. One of the most helpful attributes to the exhibition page is that it lists what exhibit is closed, new, and when they leave, it even says where they are located as well. If one plans to visit a museums and the main exhibits are under construction or momently closed that would be a waste of a trip. However, when clicking on the individual links to the exhibits it depicts what it and only showing a picture or two. I was expecting there to be more explanation and examples of what would be shown in each exhibit. Descriptions are crucial when planning a trip or looking up information, however, if they happen to be vague then that might turn away future
