With the ever growing advancements in technology, many have seen this as a detriment to society, while others realize the potential smart technology gives. A question has been raised asking whether smart technology has made us “dumb” or not. Nicholas Carr and Andrew Keen agree with each other that smart technology is making us dumber. However, I do not agree with Nicholas Carr and Andrew Keen from the broadcast of intelligence squared debate that smart technology is making us dumber. I for one, believe that smart technology is actually making us smarter.
I personally believe that it depends on the person using the smart technology and how they are using it to their advantage. Without smart technology, we wouldn’t have many things that we have today. Sure, autocorrect doesn’t help me memorize how to spell words the exact way all the time. However, if I am ever curious about something I can easily whip out my smart phone and search it up. There have also been times where I have even whipped out my phone to check something out that caught my eye. However, instead of putting my smart technology down after understanding, I felt more intrigued by it and I wanted to find out more information. So I kept researching and researching until I learned a lot more. I believe that if you use smart technology for the right reasons, then it will help you grow as an individual and you would learn much more than you ever thought you could.
