Capturing Pressure for a Greener Future At this very moment, the amount of cars driving on roads or highways would seem to be an uncountable number. In reality, according to Statistic Brain, the number of cars being manufactured in the world exceeds 48,039,060. This number is not counting commercial vehicles, and due to the high demand for commercial vehicles for today’s businesses, the number can be assumed to be much higher.
The typical car will release an exorbitant amount of CO2, which to certain people has become too much of a problem to ignore. To counter this growing pollution problem and the eventual collapse of our atmosphere, humanity created Smart Cars. These Smart Cars replace the use of fossil fuels, as well as severely reduce the amount of CO2 emissions. However, even as these cars seem to bring about a change for the better, most people forget the cost of …show more content…

When pressure is applied to the piezoelectric plates a negative charge is then produced on the “expanded” side while a positive charge is produced on the “compressed” side. Once the pressure stops compressing the plates, the electrical current flows again across the material. Electro-mechanical sensors will be placed inside popular areas and stretches of road. When cars pass over these sensors they depress the plates and the kinetic energy lost by slowing down is passed from the car into the plates.
A popular example is walking and foot pressure. If you use the motion of walking instead of driving, a single footstep would cause pressure to be applied to the plates when stepping on these piezoelectric plates; the charge that is produced is captured by sensors in the floor. This charge is then converted to an electrical charge by piezo material, usually in the form of crystal or ceramics. This electrical energy is then stored and used as a power source. One footstep can make enough energy to light two 60-watt bulbs for one
