Skin Cancer

Our skin is one of the largest organs that can be found on our body and like any other part of our body cancerous cells can form. Cancers are formed when abnormal cells begin to grow uncontrollably and begin to affect other cells and tissues. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer. There are some people who are more at risk than others for getting skin cancer and these people are people with blonde hair, red hair, light brown hair, freckles, fair skin, and a history of eczema. There are three types of skin cancer, but the most common types are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. It is caused by the Ultra Violet rays from too much sun exposure. Severe cases of sunburn can eventually lead to this type of skin cancer. With this type of cancer it begins with visible bumps and tumors forming on parts of the skin that are exposed most to the sun. This deeply affects and damages the DNA of your skin which slowly gets worse and forms cancer. The bumps that form may vary in color from black, to brown, to pink. They may also appear without any color and as a skin colored bump. As for treatment there are a variety of methods a doctor might recommend and use to remove the cancer. The method used is decided by which area of the body is affected or the size of the tumor or cancerous area. It can by brought on by Ultra Violet rays from the sun or overexposure to the sun. Tanning beds are also another likely way to be exposed to squamous cell carcinoma. Some factors that put you at risk for this type of cancer are being and older man, having blue or green eyes, having fair skin, if your hair is blonde or red, if you spend a lot of time outdoors unprotected, if you are exposed to radiation, if you spend time in tanning beds or simply by genetics. This cancer may appear as a bump or a scaly dry patch on the skin that itches. This cancer is more likely to spread than basal cell carcinoma. It can spread to tissues, bones, lymph nodes, etc. Treating this cancer can be tricky, but if identified early enough there should be no problem getting cured. A skin biopsy, or sample of the patch of skin is first examined and looked at under a microscope to give the proper diagnoses.
