Skateistan Movie Analysis

In the short documentary film Skateistan, directed by Orlando von Einsiedel, shows us how the simple hobby of skateboarding can help kids of different genders communicate and build relationships with each other. Skateistan, a Non-Governmental Organisation being run by Shana Nolan, helped give the children of Kabul, Afghanistan hope, knowing that there's more out there in the world than just War.

From this short film, we can clearly see the major effect war has on the people of Afghanistan. In the film, we are shown the effects of war on Fazilla and her family.Her family has suffered because of the effects of war on them. They are poor. Growing up he has been so used to witnessing war, that he isn't scared of it anymore. He says that they can't escape the violent situation because it keeps stopping but also keeps haunting them throughout their life. "It's been happening throughout my life, and it will continue into the future."-Murza. He is also the same as Fazilla, poor. He has to work in order to provide not only for his needs, but also for the needs of his family. During the winter season, he would be washing cars in the cold conditions of Afghanistan. He described that during those tough times, sometimes the cars would freeze, but his hands would freeze and crack too. Just like Fazilla, life was very difficult for him as well. All Murza wants is a leader, a leader that will bring peace to his country so that he can live a normal life. Comparing my life to the life Murza has, I would definitely rather have the life I have now, the struggle, the exposure from the violence of war is really tough.
