Intro: Being able to become a hero has many obstacles ahead of it. In the novel, “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” written by Pearl Poet during the late 14th century. Pearl Poet portrays Sir Gawain as a Noble, yet suspicious knight who lies his way through life expecting everything to be gifted to him without any trials. Sir Gawain will prove to King Arthur that he is able to overcome the heroic label and challenge the Green knight to a duel. Sir Gawain’s heroism is not shown with actions, but rather with his acts of maturity. II. Courtesy is the most kind Jester: Pearl poet portrays Sir Gawain as a magnificent knight, but also courteous and proper. Sometimes being labeled as a good knight is not the only feature that will stand out, “So good a knight as Gawain as rightly reputed, in whom courtesy is so completely embodied”making Sir Gawain the correct man to be able to conquest such a job.(Poet 70). Certain people have desires and wishes, but Sir Gawain only ceases to believe that showing his courteous behaviors will somehow prove King Arthur that he is a true representation of a hero. Being a hero is During this battle, Sir Gawain’s head is decapitated and then re attached showing that he is all but fearful, “ yet though I must lose my life, fear shall never make me change color”(Poet 43) portraying that he is fearless throughout his battle. Before the battle, Sir Gawain is afraid King Arthur will get hurt in the games therefore, he steps out to take the challenge. It clearly shows Sir Gawain’s loyalty to King Arthur and also how he is fearless. Sir Gawain is valued for more than just his bravery, “valued more than his chivalrous deeds, his character deteriorated, becoming fearless and brutal” (Gawain, Sir) acknowledging his many features of being a hero.
