‘'The real hero is always a hero by mistake; he dreams of being an honest coward like everybody else.'' (Eco). Some heroes wished that they might not be a hero, or some do, but don't know who, where, and when and why if/are heroes. The similarities between Sir Gawain and Westley are that they started their journey but got a little help on the way, they both start the journey by accepting that they have to go, they both know that they might end up dying but to go anywhere. The most superior is Westley because he had more help than Sir Gawain, Westley had two other people who tried to kill him but, Westley defended them and then they saved him and Westley help Inigo revenge his father's death from the six fingered man while saving the princess. …show more content…

" Whoever he is, he's obviously saw the princess, and therefore must die." (The Princess Bride). They tried to kill Westley because he was trying to save the princess. One of them, stay back, while the other two took the princess and went on. Westley won the sword fight knotted out the guy and went on to find the others. He saw the leader and the princess, they were waiting. They sat down, Westley tricked leader to drink the poisoned wine and after that, he saved the princess. Then they notice that the prince was tracking them, they ran into the forest that no one ever survived. While they were in the forest, the princess' fall through a quicksand and Westley saved her again. Then the prince found them took the princess and he took Westley to a place that Westley going to be torture. " Twelve months from now I'll take one from you/ with what weapon you chose, and from nobody else." (384-385). Sir Gawain didn't follow the 8 ideal of knighthood because he broke the 8 ideal of knighthood, he wasn't being sincerity and generosity. When Gawain arrived at the castle, the lord made deals with him; The king said what he receives from hunting he would give it all to Gawain and what Gawain receive in the castle he has to give it up to the lord of the castle. Westley was alive but he was confused what just happen because they tried to kill him first and then saved him. They go into the castle and Inigo saw the six fingered man and ran after him, left Westley and Fezzik to find the princess, then the giant got called and left Westley alone in the hall. Westley found his way to the princess's room and waited for the princess' return. They were happy to see each other. Inigo found them in the room and the giant was outside waiting for them with horses. All of them jumped out of the castle and rode off. Gawain refused some of the gifts from the lady of the castle. "But the knight refused it and quickly said/ in God's name, dear lady, I will take no gifts." (1821-1822). The king got back from hunting, The king gave Gawain his part of the deal. It was Gawain's turn, he didn't give all of his earnings to the king. Gawain broke the 8 ideal knighthoods because he kept one gift. Gawain broke the 8 ideal knighthoods, he broke the generosity, sincerity because he lied and he didn't stick to the deal, with the king and he didn't give all of his earrings. Mental games tear at a Gawain's perception of what's going on, deceiving him to the truth of his situation. Sir Gawain knows this all too well from his experience with the Green Knight. His year long quest is an ironic journey that was produced entirely by the Green Knight. Games hold tremendous value in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the games cause Sir Gawain to lose his sense of reality. Through the Green Knight's games, Sir Gawain's word is truly tested.

The next morning the lord makes an agreement to share everything he gets during these three days with Gawain, but Gawain must agree to do the same. During days one and two the lord's wife tries hitting on Gawain, but he only allows her to give him a few kisses. At these days Gawain shares what he got to the lord for what he has hunted those days. On the third day, Gawain finally accepts to take a magic girdle from the lord's wife, but he didn't share it with the lord. This magic girdle helped Gawain survive the three fatal swing's of the green giant's ax, only leaving him with a little nick. After Gawain survives these 3 swings at his neck, the green knight then reveals his identity and explains that he is Bercilak, the lord of the castle. He also said that the three blows were taken at him in regards to the three days of their agreement.
