Simon Bolivar es Venezolano. Es alto. Es fuerte. El es voluntad fuerte. Es inteligente. Simon Bolivar was born on July 24, 1783, in Caracas, Venezuela. His parents died in 1799, so he went to Spain to live with his uncle to continue his education until 1802. In Spain, he learned about the ideas of the Enlightenment and the ideas of liberty and freedom. He returned to Venezuela in 1810, and found it under Spanish occupation. He began the fight for Venezuelan independence and won in 1813. He became Venezuela’s leader, but his non-democratic rule ended in a civil war, and he fled to Haiti. Cesar Chavez, a civil rights activist, was a major proponent of workers’ rights in Hispanic history. Cesar was born in 1927, in Yuma, Arizona, as a Mexican-American. He grew up in a large family of ranchers and grocery store owners. His family lived in a small adobe house, which was taken away during the Great Depression. In order to receive ownership of the house, his father had to clear eighty acres.
One of the noteworthy aspects of his life is that he was not what some would consider a “natural-born” leader, meaning that he was not born into a family of great wealth or power. Chavez was born on March 31, 1927 near the town of Yuma, Arizona to a humble, hardworking Mexican immigrant family. His grandfather, Cesario Chavez, for whom he was named after, had worked hard to save enough money to be able to buy land in Arizona and raise his thirteen children, which included Cesar’s father. His father, Librado Chavez, grew up, got married, and opened up a couple of small businesses to help provide for his family and build a better life for his own children. In his early life Cesar experienced a lot of injustices and saw how not only his parents, but most farm workers were being mistreated and overworked. Thomas Paine was born on January 29th, 1737 in Thetford, England. He began working for his father at the age of 13 which is when his formal education ended. He became a tax-collector and began teaching himself to further his short-lived formal education. Paine was released from his tax-collecting job for pushing for higher wages stating that higher wages would reduce corruption (Claeys). A few months before the American Revolution began he moved to America after meeting Benjamin Franklin who urged him to move to America (Henretta and Brody).

Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in 1819 on a Talbot County, Maryland plantation. At the age of eight he was sent to Baltimore as a house servant. Frederick was grossly mistreated. To keep from starving, on many occasions, he competed with his master's dogs for table scraps and bones. . In 1825, he was sent to serve as a houseboy in the home of Hugh and Sophia Auld in Baltimore. Mrs Auld grew fond of him and sought to teach him to read and write. But when her husband discovered the deed she was doing he put it to a stop, because it was unlawful to teach slaves how to read, Frederick took it upon himself to learn. He made the neighborhood boys his teachers, by giving away his food in exchange for lessons in reading and writing. At about the age of twelve, Douglass purchased a copy of The Columbian Orator, a popular schoolbook at the time, which helped him to gain an understanding and appreciation of the power of the spoken and the written word. During his time in the South he was severely flogged for his resistance to slavery.

Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 between the borders of North and South Carolina. He was a regular common-man who grew up in many hardships when his mother and brothers died when they were killed by the British, which left him with a lasting hatred towards them. As a teenager, he studied law and soon became an attorney. He was soon married. Jackson was elected to the Senate, and as a judge. And when the war of 1812 rolled around, he commanded a group of soldiers and was a very successful general. He became popular with his victory at The Battle of New Orleans, and soon was persuaded to run for president. He lost the first time, but came back to win it later. But he has been the cause for a large controversy. He was seen as a supporter of the people as well as a cruel tyrant who only did what he wanted. Well, Andrew Jackson was a tyrant because of his Indian removal methods, unjust tariffs on other states, and his vetoing of laws.
Venezuela is a country located on the northern coast of South America, bordering the Caribbean Sea, Brazil and Colombia. Venezuela is a country full of beauties and contrasts where people can find beautiful beaches, plains, mountains, and even the majestic highest waterfall in the world (Angel Falls). Also, oil rich nation, one of the top 10 exporting countries worldwide. For more than four decades, this country lived in full democracy until 1999, when a former military officer, who was involved in a military coup years ago, Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias won the presidential elections, and who remained in the government until he died in 2013 from cancer. Hugo Chavez's political discourse based on the Marxist thoughts soon was creating "The Bolivarian Revolution", and since its beginning offered the XXI century socialism, which one was never described specifically to people.
Simon Bolivar is one of the most powerful and influential figures in the history of Latin America, a hero who led the movement for independence for several Latin American nations, a military and political leader with his own personal story full of tragic and dramatic moments. During his lifetime he helped to liberate people of Venezuela, Colombia, Perú, Ecuador and Bolivia from Spanish domination, played a big role in foundation of Gran Colombia and setting the principles of democracy. Even though Bolivar was not very well-known around the world, he was always held in respect among people in Latin America and remembered as a man who had an authority and power. Bolivar’s integrity, high moral standards, and perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds made him a role model to many people. Simon Bolivar is a brave character whose leadership and risks turn against him when he least expects it. Bolívar's dream had always been to cause an American Revolution-style federation among all the newly independent republics in Latin America, where with a new government set up solely to recognize and support the rights of the individual. Gabriel Garcia Marquez in his book “The General in His Labyrinth” changes or “twists” a little the representation of the Latin American hero. First of all, Marquez never really references Simon Bolivar by his name, but only as “The Liberator”. His idea behind the book was to change the traditional heroic portrayal of Simon Bolivar and show an old man who is suffering through his illness and mental exhaustion.
During the French Revolution Spain fought both as an ally and as an enemy of France. In 1804 a royal decree ordered imperial officials to confiscate certain church assets and place them at the disposal of the crown. In 1808 Napoleon invaded Spain and forced Ferdinand VII to abdicate the Spanish throne in favor of his brother Joseph. In Mexico City they entered an uneasy calm in 1809. Nevertheless Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla 1810 rising activated poor and native Mexicans whose violence scared elites and prolonged the war of indepence.
Ernesto Guevara de la Serna was born in Rosario, Argentina, on June 14th, 1928. He was the eldest of five children, and was of Irish and Spanish decent. He was a ferocious and avid rugby player, despite being asthmatic. His ferocity earned him the nickname "Fuserh, a slang for the raging. Like many Latin American adolescents of his generation, he was enthusiastic about poetry, writing and reading it. He was also a zealous reader, and loved everything from Jack London to Sigmund Freud(Wikipedia).
