People believe that racism and prejudice are a thing of the past. This is not true, because in today’s world we are still encountered with them. In To Kill a Mockingbird and The Help prejudice and racism are some of the centerpieces in these novels. Throughout this essay the main focuses will be comparing how the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and the film, The Help by Kathryn Stockett are similar and different with racism and prejudice. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson is being accused of raping Mayella Ewell. The White people in the courtroom find that he is guilty of raping her because of his color. Tom tries to tell them he did not rape her, but they just won’t believe him. This part of the book contrast well with the ending of The Help, when Hilly Holbrook came over to Elizabeth Leefolts’ house to tell her that Aibileen Clark stole items from her. For instance, during Tom’s trial he was accused of raping a white girl. He told the people he did not rape her, but they wouldn’t believe him because Mr. Ewell indicated that Tom raped her.
