Tim Burton is a very talented and enthusiastic film director who fabricates many sinister yet vivid movies. What he is most known for are his films Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the very unusual story of Edward Scissorhands. Both of the famous films use many unique stylistic cinematic techniques, but what really makes his showings extraordinary and makes the audience stay engaged to the screen are his expert use of camera movements and lighting. Tim Burton uses camera angles, lighting, and framing to make his audience understand the characters emotions and feelings in his films.

But what really makes a film stand out is the directors use of lighting and camera effects. It attracts the audience and it really makes them seem like they are apart of the story itself. Most can be categorized into one simple style: close-ups, distant shots, bright, or dark. While both films are extremely different in story, Burton’s similar style is demonstrated in in each, and every film. Whether it’s the color of the houses, or the color of peoples clothes, the lighting has a lot do to with how we see the colors that Burton uses to create the mood. Like in Edward Scissorhands, he gives the good, or normal characters, like Pen, the brighter, more girly colors. And to go with that, he gives the scary, mean characters, like Edward Scissorhands himself, darker colors. Or, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, inside the factory, he uses brighter colors against the boring, plain colors. Even though there is brighter colors used, it does not mean that it is happier or more cheerful where it is brighter. Although lighting is such a strong technique that Burton uses that creates a certain mood, the viewers may not appreciate the sound and sound effects
