‘Once’ there was ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time’ where the two main characters, Felix and Christopher Boone, travelled on their adventures to find their loved ones that were ‘gone’. In this oral I shall be talking about the similarities and differences of both books storylines and then I will begin talking about the similarities and differences in the main characters, exploring the themes and subjects of: Naïve narration, Isolation, Empathy, Tragedy, How the characters think and how they act around other people. From the very beginning of the book, it is apparent that Felix has always thought about where his parents are, and we are introduced to him at a time when he believes he should set out to try and find them. In Curious Incident, Christopher is also looking for one of his parents, but this is at a later stage of the book when some interesting events begin to unfold. The second similarity is that both Christopher and Felix are solving mysteries, Christopher’s mystery being who killed wellington (his neighbour’s dog) and in his search for truth unfurling a dark secret about what actually happened to his mother. And Felix’s mystery is him wondering where his parents are and what has happened to them, along his journey Felix also uncovers some terrible truths about what is happening to Jews like him.
The main contrast of the storyline, is how the characters’ mix with new characters as they pop up in the book, Christopher pushes help away, not wanting to talk to strangers and preferring to be isolated. Meanwhile Felix picks up the new characters along the way, feeling empathetic for them as he feels that he has a better understanding of the world around them (which he often lets his imagination run wild
