While the events took place and in different countries and time periods, both the Ebola outbreak of 2014, and the Salem Witch Trials resemble each other in many ways. The Ebola Epidemic of 2014 strongly parallels the Salem witch trials, as presented in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, because the viral disease spread mass hysteria, destruction, and death.
The Ebola Outbreak spread panic and suspicion throughout the world, similar to how the witch trials spreading hysteria around Salem. With news of Ebola spreading and mutating quickly, the world flung into panic (Ebola {2}). No one knew who all had come in contact with, or who was carrying the deadly disease. Similarly in Salem, people don’t know who is a witch, nor do they know if witchcraft has even been occurring (Salem). Regardless if the accusations were true, a mass panic spread over the people of Salem just like what happened with the Ebola outbreak. …show more content…

In Salem, the suspected witches are imprisoned, even if they have in the past been regarded as “upright” citizens (Miller). Citizens of the village are concerned about what will happen, and all of the sinful activity that will take place, if witches are present in Salem. Likewise with the Ebola situation, those who had come in contact with, or were suspected to have the disease were quarantined and isolated to prevent it from spreading to other people, and other countries(Ebola {2}). In both occurrences, citizens of Salem and the whole world were afraid of the unfamiliar and the damage that could have been done if proper precautions were not
