Should Teachers Carry Guns In Schools?

Teachers and Guns Considering I have a strong opinion against guns, I have never seen them as a solution. Guns to protect us against guns? They promote violence, and nothing more. I believe allowing teachers to carry guns on campus would just cause even more trouble and brutality. Taking a person, who was trained to educate, and placing them as defenders of a school is not, and would not, be a practical solution. Following the devastating shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, everyone was trying to devise solutions to make campuses safer for students (D. 2015). This lead to the debate whether or not schools should allow teachers to train to carry concealed weapons. There is a growing amount of school districts in Texas that are authorizing teachers to carry guns on their campuses (Chasmar 2015). A few of the districts are Keene ISD, Harrold ISD, and Van ISD. According to The Washington Times(2015), Keene Independent School District, a small district in north Texas, is allowing “a few staff members, selected by the district, to carry guns inside the district’s four campuses.” And just …show more content…

Current laws in the states vary regarding purchasing a gun. A few states do not even require permits in order to purchase a gun, or require owners to register; making it so much easier for these tragedies to keep happening. Many agree the laws for background checks should be more strict because of how laid back they are in some states. The chances of a potential, violent incident happening would be much higher because of this.
