Do you think that kids should get paid for doing chores? I think they should. I think that they should because kids are going to need money and I think that they should have to earn it. After reading, The Case Against Chores, by Jane Smiley, I must say that I disagree with her perception of chores. Ms. Smiley states that the reason for chores is for “developing good work habits or, in the absence of good work habits, at least habits of working” (Smiley, 2009, p. 274). However, chores teach us things such as responsibility and how to go above and beyond what might be asked of us. As a child I did a lot of chores and had to grow up a little faster than some children, but I would not change that for the world. It molded me into the adult that I am today. Therefore, chores, to a certain extent, are a great way to start you on the path in preparing you for adulthood.
In conclusion, I think student-athletes should get paid for racking up revenue for their universities, the amount of time they spend in their sports, and by paying student-athletes, it may increase their motivation to reach academic success and steer them clear from unsolicited activities. The efforts of student-athletes must be acknowledged because they have given their best effort and countless hours of their time to represent their universities in the best way possible.

There has always been a lot of debate on whether or not college athletes should get paid. With as much money as college sports makes from these student athletes, should these student athletes be getting paid? There are many different stances on why I feel like these student athletes should be getting paid. I will talk about some of the reasons on why they should get paid. Being a student athlete is a very stressful thing in life at that age as they are attending school full time and working extremely hard at being the best athlete they can on the field.
Should or should not student athletes be paid to play for their college? I in all honesty believe that you should not. It would be setting them out in a completely different way than they are meant to. Now I will justify why a student athlete should not be paid to play at a college level.
Can you imagine having a job for nine months out of the year that makes you work from 8:15 AM until 3:30 PM on every weekday and not getting paid for all of your hard, tedious work? To most of you that sounds ridiculous. That’s because it is. Students have to go through this painful process from September to May and usually don’t have anything to show for it. They dedicate their whole lives to getting all A’s on their report card and when they finally do all they usually get is a pat on the back. Thus, students should get paid for having good grades because it takes lots of hard work to get those grades, it would cause more students to strive for good grades, and it would eliminate the need for a job, which would allow for more studying time.
On the issue of college athletes getting paid, I believe they should. When I mean getting paid I only mean a stipend or weekly check, not thousands or millions. All the hard work and dedication they put into their sport and academics are worthy enough. I have had a chance to play collegiate sports and it takes a lot out of you mentally and physically. The student athletes deserve at least enough money to have a normal student life. $300-$400 a month should give athletes enough money to get the required necessities. All this does is replace the notion of the athlete getting a job for a source of income. This will also help reduce the rate at which athletes accept money, cars, and gifts from boosters. When athletes get caught accepting something from a booster it looks bad on the athlete and the college. So, in my opinion yes college athletes should get paid, there is too much money that the universities have earned floating around going unanswered for the athletes not to get their cut.

Overall, I believe that student-athletes in colleges are being given enough as it is, without being paid extra for playing their sports. School can be frustrating for students. Going to school, doing homework, and then repeating it all over again the next day can become quite tedious. Especially when one feels as if they are not gaining anything from doing well in school, it causes students to have very little motivation to complete their schoolwork. Students might be motivated if there was some sort of incentive for attending school and doing well at it. A law should be passed that requires students to be paid for doing well in school because it gives them motivation, helps them with financial issues, and allows them to learn how to manage money more effectively.

We teach kids that if they do “good deeds” you will gain something for yourself and not teaching them that we should do these deeds for the only purpose of helping people.
