Deciding whether or not to let your child play sports a young age has become a disputable topic among parents and communities. There are numerous advantages to letting your child play a sport, nevertheless, parents and others are still wondering if the risks of playing a sport outweigh the benefits to young people playing that certain sport. Based on recent tragedies from sports injuries like football leave people asking, should we change the rules to make for a safer game? Could changing the rules make football or other sports less entertaining to watch? Then again, could enhancing in equipment and injury protocols make playing these certain sports safe enough for children? Nevertheless, the bigger argument right now is the risk of physical injury from playing sports. Participating in physical contact sports such as football, soccer, rugby, and lacrosse put kids at a higher risk of getting injured. Even with the right techniques, sports are not risk-free. Football usually receives the most attention regarding injuries due to all of the head injuries.The tragic case of a high school player named Jaquan Waller who died due to Second Impact Syndrome, emphasizes how vulnerable young brains are (CNN,2012). This tragic event could’ve been easily avoidable if a certified physical trainer was present, or if Jaquan was required to see a doctor to determine whether or not he got a concussion. After numerous tragic events like this occurred, recent research was found that children and young adults do not have fully developed brains and those playing physical contact sports are at risk for developing Alzheimer's disease due to protein buildup in the brain.
