There are many ways to analyze text which can be an interpretation of evaluation. From reading this piece of writing there are many clues which are not initially seen but can be analyzed for a deeper meaning. The analyzation of these devices can cause a greater understanding of his message within this piece. In the short story “Superman and Me” by Sherman Alexie, it displays literary devices such as imagery, foreshadowing, and Tone to indicate how his childhood circumstances constructed and paved his way for his success within adulthood. The devices utilized in “Superman and Me” demonstrates just how the situations he endured growing up molded his success. Alexie’s “Superman and Me” is his life story on how he became intrigued in books at the age of three. It all started with a Superman comic book. Even though he was incapable to read, he would generate his own ideas of what they comic would read. “A smart Indian is a dangerous person.” (Alexie 495). Foreshadows how dangerous he will become with the knowledge he has obtained from reading. He utilizes his knowledge to save other Native Americans from being statistics and falling to the stereotypes. It also demonstrates how knowledge is power since it becomes his weapon to defeat the adversity he faces in the life of a Native American. This foreshadowing is utilized to prove how reading at an early age caused him to obtain knowledge which he utilizes later in life to have the power of success. Alexie then uses his power to help the Native American youth. The device of foreshadowing is to give a hint to the readers on what is going to happen later in the text.
