Jordan helped revolutionize the game of basketball, the marketing brand of the NBA, and became one of the most recognizible humans on the face of the Earth. Through the Civil Rights movement, America's involvement in the Cold War, and a period of transition in America, Michael Jordan entered the NBA at a time of cultivation. All the hard work that Jordan did through his life, and all the hard work society did to progress as a whole colloborated in the 1980's, and allowed Michael Jordan to become a revolutionary. Michael Jordan is an iconic symbol of not just basketball, but American change and progress and it's influence throughout the world.
Few professional basketball athletes’ names are recognizable to the avid, diehard basketball fans and the uninterested layman alike. One of the first, if not the first, athlete to pop up in anyone’s head is the legendary Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan, also known as His Airness, MJ, and Air Jordan, is widely considered the greatest basketball players of all time. Throughout his professional career, Jordan kept changing the game and redefined the entire sport of basketball. However, in 2002, an aspiring athlete by the name of LeBron Raymone James, also known as King James or simply LeBron, immediately rose to prominence and caught the attention of the entire NBA community. The young star quickly proved his tremendous skill, receiving the hype of being the next Michael Jordan. Looking closer, I found that the similarities between the two players are striking.
Michael Jordan is one the greatest all-time basketball players in the history of the NBA and a great role model for athletes. Jordan teaches athletes how to reach their goals, how to accept failure, and how to succeed. Michael Jordan is known around the world as “Air Jordan”, “G.O.A.T” (Greatest of All Times), “MJ”, and “His Airness”. He acquired this nickname by jumping from the free throw line and dunking. This simulated that he was “flying” through the air.
There is a lot of talk about who is the greatest basketball player to ever set foot on a court. Born December 30, 1984, LeBron James is often in the mix of this conversation. Like most successful people today, LeBron had it rough growing having to move from apartment to apartment. His father Anthony McClelland, an ex-con, did not step up to the plate of fatherhood, leaving his mother Gloria James to raise him on her own. When LeBron was just a sobbing baby she bought him a miniature goal, not knowing she was creating one of the best ball players of all time.
Michael Jordan’s retirement in 1998 marked the end of basketball’s Jordan-Era. The question became which franchise and players would ascend to dominance if anyone in Jordan’s abscence. This question was answered by two big men, whose unique play and winning attitudes would allow the coming decade, to of NBA basketball to be just as historic as the previous one had been. Despite their stylistic differences, Shaquille O’Neal and Tim Duncan shared a knack for success. The begining of this era saw eight of the next nine NBA champions teams lead primarily by either Shaq or Duncan. Shaquille O’Neal, whose endless amount of nicknames, including the The Big Aristotle, Shaq Daddy, Shaq Diesel , stemmed from his dominant, loud style of play, as well as his boisterous personality. Duncan’s nickname, “The Big Fundamental”, a nickname which was actually given to him by Shaq, is a perfect way to sum up what Duncan represents. This nickname pays homage to Duncan’s no flash, strictly precise game plan and execution. These two superstars can break down through stats and style. I can't possibly sit here and pick Shaquille O'Neal over Tim Duncan or vice versa. They're just too different, yet identical in their impact. Shaquille O'Neal was all about power, while Duncan was/is about consistent non-flashy production.
Michael Jordan once said “I will not let anything get in the way of me and my competitive enthusiasm to win”. This have help people of all ages get through their burdens and do something they love instead of doing some negative. For many people basketball has become more than a game, it’s the way of life. The American game of basketball has traveled now, it’s played by more than 250 million people worldwide.
Shaquille O’Neal is one of the biggest and most dominant guys to ever play the game of basketball. He is such a big guys, he wears a size 43 shoes! He is one of the most dominant BigMen to ever play in the NBA. Shaquille O’Neal was an NBA power forward from 1982-2011, his life before, during and after the NBA are pretty fascinating subjects to talk about.
In The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway, Lady Brett Ashley is a representative of the New Woman, changing the American landscape. This is shown when she changes from a female to male role, as she pleases. For example, when she takes the place of a male role she demands that people please her such as, when she ordered Jake to “kiss” (Hemingway, 15) her “once more before [they] get there.” (Hemingway, 15) Although changed back to her female role when “she gave [Jake] her hand as she stepped down” (Hemingway, 15) For a man to help a woman out of a car is known as a chivalrous and an expected action, especially in the past, in addition, the man is suppose to initiate the kiss. Brett is a woman who wants to display a secure, stable, satisfied and independent life to the point where readers are not able to
Jordan simply dominated the nineties and left the game as an NBA Finals winner in 1998. It was not until the year 2002 that the NBA was able to find someone to match Jordan’s dazzling acrobatic style of play. His name is Lebron James. Lebron, who plays shooting guard and small forward, stands at an athletic six-eight. James, however, never played in the NCAA.
Leonard F. Peltier once said, “Innocence is the weakest defense. Innocence has a single voice that can only say over and over again, "I didn't do it." Guilt has a thousand voices, all of them lies.” This powerful quote featured in Peltier’s novel, “Prison Writings” that was written in his prison cell reflects on the issue of himself being incarcerated for over 30 years for an action he states he didn’t do. Some may question if it would be mean anything now if Peltier was released and given freedom again. No human being should ever have their life completely taken away from them because of a crime that they did not commit. With this action happening to Peltier, he has found a way through his writings
