Shakespeare's Portrayal of Charlotte Gardener of Leonato
Throughout the play the character of Leonato displays varied parenting
skills, he seems to act differently with Hero in different situations.
There are a number of things which point to him being a bad father,
however there are also times when the audience would perhaps disagree
with the way he handles things.
In the wedding scene he is understandably excited, his only daughter
is about to marry a respected gentleman. I think the fact that
Shakespeare made Hero his only daughter intensifies her fall from his
grace. Once she is married he will have an heir and so she is the most
important thing in his life and everything in his life seems to
revolve around her, so he does care what happens to her, although it
might be suggested that this is for selfish reasons.
Therefore when Claudio suggests that Hero is impure, Leonato dismisses
the idea as a mistake or a joke. This indicates to the audience that
he has a high opinion of Hero and doesn't think that she would let him
down, but perhaps he actually thinks that she wouldn't dare let him
down. Although his first assumption that Hero is innocent, is correct,
when Claudio insists that the accusation is true, Leonato stops
doubting and so it seems he didn't need a lot of convincing. This
confirms to the audience that Leonato doesn't know his daughter very
well. He never questions Hero, or asks for an explanation which shows
that he is now convinced that she is not as perfect as he supposedly
thought. Shakespeare portrays the side of Leonato that is concerned
largely with matters of status and reputation in the scene when Don

be mean to Hero and he wants to show her that he loves her but I think
his problem is that he doesn't know how to act with her and this
becomes evident throughout the play. I don't think the audience
dislike Leonato or think that he is a bad father, I think they do feel
sympathetic towards Hero but would understand that Leonato was trying
his best. It is quite obvious that Hero is happy with her life and therefore Leonato
must be a good father. It seems that she loves him and understands
that he is trying hard to be a good father.
Shakespeare created a complex relationship and left it up to the
audience to decide who is right and who is wrong. This is a good
technique because the audience has control. They might compare the
situations on the stage to their relationships or relationships of
people they know.
The first part of the Hero’s journey begins in the ordinary world. In the book, Star Girl, the protagonist Leo’s ordinary world is his high school where there are no leaders and all students act the same. Although Leo is different than the others, he keeps to himself. The next part of the hero’s journey is the call to adventure. After seeing Star Girl in school everyday for some time, Leo begins to have a crush on Star Girl and thinks about her often. Leo refuses this call by telling his school show co-host, Kevin, that they shouldn’t have Star Girl on the show, although Kevin wants her on it. Leo refuses the call again when Star Girl calls him “cute,” and he blushes and says nothing.

The next day Claudio does exactly as he had said, degrading Hero in front of all her family and friends. Because she did not cheat on him, she did not expect that kind of reaction. She is so dejected that she faints, and everyone assumes she is dead. Eventually Borrachio is overheard talking about Don John’s plan, and Don John is arrested. Later Claudio learns that Hero is not actually dead, and they are finally married.

When many people decided to sit down and read a book or a play it is because the title or summary entices them. As the story comes to an end it is decided whether or not the person related to or understood the point of the literature. Great authors and playwrights know this and set in place concepts. Many different concepts, to catch different audiences attention and to deepen the understanding of the literature. In order to understand Shakespeare’s play Othello, it is necessary to examine the emotions of jealousy, manipulation, being consumed by something, and gender.
Romeo and Juliet has different roles for different genders. During the Shakespearean period, when Shakespeare writes, most women had to marry when they were teen, when they were in adolescence or even before. However, the men who they were marrying were in their early to late twenties. In the household that the women lived in, the men basically owned them. The women always followed men’s word, which says that the male was the dominant gender of the society. Romeo and Juliet reflects this in a number of ways. Juliet was forced to marry Paris, by the word of her father, who said that if she did not marry Paris, she would go to the streets(Shakespeare, 3.5.154-62). Women were thought to be weaker and less important than men in Romeo and Juliet because men are trying to be the strongest out of everyone, women have a lower social status, and men think they owned women in Romeo and Juliet.
To be a hero, one must inspire hope in others, change their lives for the better, but all Junior did was crush his schools hopes, and kill his sister. One could argue that he changed Rowdy’s life, but they would know that to be false, because Rowdy was content to watch Junior succeed. Junior never managed to accomplish anything that positively changed the lives of those who needed it, and because of that, Junior cannot be classified as a hero.
It is fascinating how the most famous plays in history have the most tragic endings. They are not what we would imagine a normal fairy tale ending to be like. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet are portrayed as star-crossed lovers. In the opening scene, the chorus states that Romeo and Juliet are two young lovers from opposing families who were destined to fall in love and eventually die together. Juliet’s parents have the perfect life planned for Juliet. She has the perfect fiancé, she was going to have a great family, and live happily until the day she died. But then it was love at first sight for Romeo and Juliet. They both know it was the wrong thing to do, but they went with it. Despite their best intentions to be together and to change their fate, the play proves that there destiny’s are predetermined.

As Leontes makes his first appearance in Shakespeare's `The Winter's Tales', the reader is confronted by an aggressively insecure character. His conversation with the more relaxed Polixenes is illustrative of this. Polixenes, in his anxiety to leave, explains that he has overstayed his welcome;
The portrayal of gender roles in William Shakespeare’s play Othello, demonstrates the inferior treatment of women and the certain stereotypes of men placed on them by society. Both the male and female characters in the play have these certain gender expectations placed on them. In a society dominated by men, it is understood that the women are to be seen rather than heard. The women are referred to and treated much like property. If indeed they do speak up, they are quickly silenced. One woman’s attempt to be the perfect wife is what ultimately led to her demise. The expectations of men are equally stereotypical. Men are to be leaders and to be in control and dominant especially over the women. The male characters compete for position and use the female characters in the play as leverage to manipulate each other. Shakespeare provides insight in understanding the outcomes of the men and women who are faced with the pressures of trying to live up to society’s expectations, not only in the workplace, but also in the home. The pressure creates jealousy issues amongst the men and they become blind to the voice of reason and are overtaken by jealous rage, leads to the death of many of the characters.
The word hero is a familiar word to most, and many people believe they fully understand that meaning. Quite often, they really do not. Expressing kindness is not a difficult task all it takes is a bit of caring and consideration to do something for the benefit of someone else. As Barron (2002) states, “here’s another way to think about it: A hero does something truly important, regardless of whether anyone ever notices. Heroism, then, is about character. The qualities a person carries down inside” (p. 12).
The play Othello is presented as a male-dominated society where women are only recognized as property; objects to own and to bear children. Women in the Elizabethan society and in Shakespeare society were not seen as equal to men and were expected to be loyal to their husbands, be respectful, and to not go against their husbands judgements or actions. Shakespeare presents Desdemona, Emilia , and Bianca as women in the Elizabethan time where they were judged based on their class, mortality, and intelligence. Shakespeare makes his female characters act the way they would be expected to act in an Elizabethan society. The role of these women in Othello is crucial because they show how women were treated and how unhealthy their relationships between men really were in both Elizabethan and Shakespeare's society.
A hero is someone who tries to comfort you. They will fight hand in hand just for your own benefit. In the book “The Odyssey “, Odysseus tries to comfort his men. He tries to comfort his men by telling them that they will fight together through the bad and the ugly. “Circe foresaw for us and shared with me, so let me tell her forecast: then we die with our eyes open, if we are going to die, or know what death we baffle if we can. “ (The Odyssey 5). This quote tells that Odysseus reassures his men to not be scared, that if they die, it will not be a surprise. Also, that they can avoid the hardships through their own knowledge.
