In high school, everyone is put into a “group” because of how they dress, act, what their interests are, or how popular they are with others. Beyond high school, it happens in workplaces as well. This movement is commonly known as feminism. Feminism, as defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, means to have the belief that men and women should have equal right and opportunity. Along with this, is the hope that it will diminish gender roles and liberate both sexes of gender stereotypes. A great deal of people believe that feminism is for women only and that it is a platform to stand on for man hating. In reality, it is quite the opposite. The feminist movement is all about gender equality, meaning that it is a problem that both men and women are burdened with. It is true, that females have been bearing this issue for a longer time and have known the harsh consequences of it. When speaking about feminism or sexism, they generally go together because “feminism refers to the belief that men and women should have equal opportunities in economic, political, and social life, while sexism refers to a belief in traditional gender role stereotypes and in the inherent inequality between men and women” (4.2 Feminism). The feminist movement literally exists to abolish sexism in this world. This means that one do not have to be a girl in order to participate.
