The Seven Years’ War was a massive conflict between two major world super powers; France and Great Britain. The French and Indian War was the name given to the specific section of the Seven Years War conflict that occurred in North American. Beginning in 1754, the French and Indian War , ended in 1763 with the Treaty of Paris . The French and Indian War occurred because of ongoing tensions in North America territories. At this period of time both France and Great Britain were aiming to extend their own country’s sphere of influence. In order to do this they hoped to capture more land and territories in which they could utilize the region's resources. Prior to the French and Indian War in North America, France had laid claim to New France,which was an expansive territory that went from Louisiana through the Mississippi Valley and up through the Great Lakes and Canada. In this territory controlled by France there was only light settlement, in contrast to the more densely populated territories of Great Britain. Great Britain controlled thirteen colonies with its colonial territory stretching out to the Appalachian Mountains.Technically the border between French the territories possessed by France and the territories possessed by Britain had not been well defined. Because of this the two superpowers disputed their claims, especially to the territory of the upper Ohio River valley. In the Ohio River valley French colonists had already built numerous forts. During the French and Indian War several tribes had actually allied with the French because they wanted to fight to stop western expansion of colonial settlements. Many of the colonists however wanted to claim more of the lands and to expand outward . Because Great Britain was cautious of sparking another major war with the Native Americans , while Great Britain was still trying to recover from the damages and financial losses of the Seven Years war many of the expansionist colonists were angry with the british government. The British colonists were discontent because of these factors and this early discontent eventually compounded to the grievousness that led to colonial rebellion. This discontentment in the colonies because of Great Britain's victory in the seven Years War is what laid the foundation to the eventual fight for independence that occurred in the American
