"I am lucky that whatever fear I have inside me, my desire to win is always stronger." These are the words of one woman who would become one of the greatest tennis player and sports star of all time, Serena Williams. Born Serena Jameka Williams on September 26, 1981 to Richard and Oracene this American phenomenon has been wielding a racket and whacking tennis balls to victory since she was three years old. She is the youngest of five daughters and together with her sister Venus, she has scorched a trail in the tennis world.

Who is Serena Williams?

Serena Williams is a tennis phenomenon who has fought her way to claim 23 grand slam singles before the age of 35. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan but later on her father moved the entire family to Compton, a suburb of Los Angeles, because he thought there would be better opportunities but instead found a neighborhood that was rough and violent. Still, Richard Williams was dedicated to nurturing the talent that his girls possessed. Using books and instructional videos, Richard Williams began teaching the girls the game. Serena and her sister were playing in tournament since she was four and a half years old. Of the forty nine tournaments she played as a kid Serena won forty six of them.
