The landmark ruling in the case of an Afghan bomb maker is set to make it harder for him to bring a successful legal claim against the Ministry of Defence. The judgment, due on Tuesday, is likely to be seized upon as a victory for campaigners who have argued that human rights laws were making it impossible for British troops to be deployed overseas without risking expensive claims for damages. Serdar Mohammed began a legal action for compensation against the MoD following his capture in 2010 at a time when the British Army was suffering its worst casualties of the campaign. He was detained for 106 days without charge before being handed over to the Afghan authorities. He was jailed by a Kabul court after being convicted of terrorist offences
