3.Case Study Analysis
As the case study area of this report is the Redlands located in South East Queensland as seen in Fig.1, the main planning and management framework that will be assessed and analyzed will be the South East Queensland Regional Plan (SEQ). The SEQ Regional Plan is a statutory plan drawn up to assist regional growth and development in South East Queensland. The Purpose of the South-East Queensland Regional plan is “to manage regional growth and change in the most sustainable way to protect and enhance quality of life in the region” (SEQRP,2009-2031). The role of this regional plan is to reflect and inform state planning policies and priorities; it also informs other non-statutory plans such as natural resource management …show more content…

Therefore it has it’s own delivery mechanism which is the Redlands Biodiversity Strategy for biodiversity management. The regional vision outlined in the SEQ regional plan in terms of environment and biodiversity is the development of an efficient transportation system which contributes to a reduction in Greenhouse gas emissions. Also, it aims to improve conservation and protection of the ecologically significant landscapes such as the Moreton Bay Islands, beaches, wetlands, parks and bush and farmlands all of which also support a rich and diverse biodiversity. To support this vision, the SEQ regional Plan’s aim is to use sustainable development where the ecologically diverse character of the region is recognised, conserved and protected. In order to achieve the aims, the SEQ Regional Plan has devised strategic frameworks. These include management of growth in a sustainable manner where the reduction of ecological footprint will take place. In doing so, the SEQ regional plan aims to protect the diverse biodiversity of the area and contain urban development. Another one of the SEQ Regional Plan’s strategic frameworks is to protect the regional landscapes which supports the environmental functions. Also with this strategy they aim to enhance the bioregional corridors outside the urban and rural areas which will help to protect the biodiversity in a way that would reduce …show more content…

The map is used as a guide as to how biodiversity policies should be put into play. The vegetation Management Act of 1999 will assist in land clearing which will ensure that the impact on biodiversity is minimalized as to avoid destroying biodiversity values. As seen in Fig.4, biodiversity habitat areas in the Redlands have been extensively fragmented. This in relation to the Koalas being unviable to the region in the near future. Here the aim is to improve biodiversity connectivity by rehabilitation of cleared land or areas. (SEQRP,
