Self-Care and Self-Improvement Through Nursing School and Beyond Going into nursing profession, most people know that health care can be challenging although rewarding. Before becoming a fully licensed nurse, you have to go through nursing school. By accounts on several of the people that I know, I have learned that it was the worst time in their academic lives. Nursing school is demanding and stressful, therefore this paper will introduce ways to reduce stress and self-improve while getting through these tough times.
Review of findings
It is common knowledge that high levels of stress lead to burnout, life dissatisfaction and poor physical and mental health. An International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health published an article about the burnout and health effects among nurses. When I listen to music, it seems to make me feel relaxed and happy. These feelings are very common to feel when listening to music. One of the branches of therapy in healthcare is Music Therapy; it is a clinical and evidence-based practice that aims to improve physical, psychological, cognitive and social functions for patients (n,d). Music Therapy can be accessible for people of any age and with any disabilities, as it is a non-invasive and unique approach to rehabilitation. “Music is a form of sensory stimulation, which provokes responses due to the familiarity, predictability, and feelings of security associated with it” (n,d). The American Music Therapy Association presents with several fact sheets about their research in medicine.
