Watching my assessment video was a more positive experience than I I expected it to be before I initiated the process. Self assessments have always been hard for me though I have always understood why it is necessary to be aware of the progress the I have made. It is pertinent to obtain the skill set of finding the common thread in errors so you can go back and fix them. I have always been afraid of watching or hearing myself on video because I was afraid of the mistakes I would make. When I watched the video I was surprised at how well it went. Though there were errors, I was able to complete it without any major stumbles. When executing the turn outs of most of the warm ups, my hips were not square to the barre, but would move in the direction of whichever foot was turned out. Squareness is being able to keep the shoulders and pelvis on the same plane. This provides aids in stability when standing on one leg and gesturing with another. During the combination I found that my squareness was decent most of the time, except when I did the flaps after the Suzie Qs. Neither my hips or my shoulder were on the same plane. This would also occur during the transition from the combination on the left to the right and the two back essences at the end. I would find myself unsure of how to transition from one back essence to another and that lead to my pelvis and shoulders no longer being aligned and I would lose my balance. Squareness of the body enhances weight shifting and I believe that as I continue to progress one of my first steps in fixing my efficient weight shifting is to begin with mindfulness where my hips and pelvis are in relation to the plane that I am on. After going through the process of having to watch my own tape and processing it using the objectives that we have studied for class, I am surprised by how helpful I found watching and learning from myself. It has changed my perspective of how I see progress. You have to understand what your foundation is if you are going to get better at a skill. It is also a celebration of the progress that has been made. I have a better understanding now that mindfulness, efficient weight shift and squareness are objective that I need to continue to focus on and how I can continue to improve as the semester
