The Waterloo Catholic District School Board, has only ever considered what they think we, the students, need. Never asking us what we want1 for our school and what we think is most needed. Clubs and teams at St. David’s are heavily underfunded. Many clubs or teams such as Arts Club and Team Dave2 deserve equal funding to the sports teams. Students on sports teams have never had to fundraise for trips or equipment whereas the arts department must save up their money for two years to put on a good show people will want to see. As well Team Dave must go out to companies and try to persuade them to sponsor the team. I know for a fact as a member of team Dave that we have to fundraise for the robot’s parts, the costs for travel to competitions, which includes food a housing arrangements, and competitions entry fees. David’s Catholic Secondary School should get a say in what goes on at their school. I believe the students have a right to better communication with the school board; one student and one teacher that have contact and no power with the school board is not enough, you deserve more! I believe4 that part of growing up and developing character, something heavily influenced at our school, is making decision and learning to be good with money. I believe that students work hard every day to get a decent education, juggling four classes, jobs, extracurriculars, boyfriends, girlfriends, friends5 and families; they should get a little help from there school board for more funding. School funding is a recurring issue in the modern era. Debates ranging from give schools more money, to get rid of the system in place and reform a new idea have been plaguing the world over the years. “The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed in 2009, provided more than $100 billion in education aid to offset budget cuts..” (School Finance). Later, “Congress provided an additional $10 billion in 2010 to avert mass teacher layoffs (Education Week, "Total Recovery Act")” (School Funding). These numbers are just a sample of the struggles in school funding, that is costing a ton of money to keep afloat. “There are many ways schools fund varying from state to state and even school to school. Income taxes, corporate taxes, sales taxes, and other fees provide 48 percent of the elementary and secondary school funds. 44 percent of local districts draw money from local property taxes. The federal government makes up approximately 8 percent of state education budgets. These funds are a dealt out on a per-student basis, and categorically to ensure enough resources for each special program or facility” (School Funding). These funds play a huge role in every student's education, either positive or negative. The three main areas that need to be addressed in the school budget are extracurricular funding, building and equipment maintenance, and last but not least staff funding.
The role of school boards “is to establish a vision for the community's schools that reflects a consensus of the board, community and district staff.” Although this is their main purpose, they also have to balance a district budget, create a district-yearly calendar, negotiate contract, construction, and approve district curriculum. (Stover 1) Although it might seem harsh to argue with school boards even though they do a lot, it is their job. They were appointed to lead and better the community, guide our children. If they are not mentally ready to be a leader, then why run for a school board member, the focus should be on the children, how to better education for them, and how to make sure they get the most out of every day coming to school.
Since 39 percent of students are enrolled in parochial schools, I think that having public funds to support activities like transportation, books, standardized testing and scoring, diagnostic services and therapeutic and remedial services is fine since with these the government is not actually advocating for the religion (262-263). Seen the cases that are related to public funds provided for private education in the U.S. Supreme court, I do see that repeatedly there has been an attempt to having “excessive entanglement”. When the government starts to get involve in trying to provide funds for schools like we can observe in the Lemon v. Kurtzman is when a conflict occurs (263). It is hard to tell when the establishment clause tolerates since there are not many specifics and falls under the judgment of people, but when the government starts to get to involve in creating a school district for a particular religion (e.g. Board of Education of Kiryas Joel Village School District v. Grumet) it clearly conflict with the clause.
Are children really being sent to school to get a rigorous education? This is a tough question. Children in America are being sent through a public education system that reeks of political and corporate manipulation. This design attempts to force every child into the same mold, which does not let the individual child express themselves, be recognized for their personal strengths, or get support for that with which they struggle. There are many things that continue to contribute to the degradation of education in America, and some of these are private investments in charter schools, No Child Left Behind (NCLB), and an overemphasis on standardized testing.

Alumni are willing to give possibly millions of dollars because it can be considered a “charitable donation” and can help relieve their taxes. Colleges are essentially non-profit business and when they are donated to it is considered a “charitable donation”.
The United States has many conflicts, one of them is funding on Public Education. In fact Public schools are to make every effort to try and help the students with all they can. Some schools have better things to offer to their schools. It depends on the population where the school is located. Do you agree that the public schools should get the funding depending on the population of where they are located? So many things are unfair and we the people do not really have much we can say publicly or even speak up to this situation. Every student should have the same opportunities as someone that goes to a school where tons of money are invested into. Let us focus on tomorrow’s future instead because once we know it the time will come to see these successful students take part of our country and keep us going forward for the better. Despite the fact that funding on public education will not help students succeed academically with the money provided to the schools, every school deserves to get as much money because students will receive more proper education and will be more successful students in the future.
There are new types of public charter schools that are another form of opportunity inequality because they are almost a public and private school blended together. These charter schools are becoming more popular and their number of students is growing exponentially. The education system has been changing in recent years and the same problems that existed continue to get worse as years pass. Problems that were seen as minor at first have now grown. How to change the public higher education system has been a major topic of discussion but there has still been no major action taken. We struggle to figure out how much funding is needed for higher education and where it should come from. Our people continue to suffer from an underfunded high cost system. The wealthy minority of people continue to be the only ones accounted for and it is time to change this. We need to adapt to the changes and the costs that continue to rise. Proper school funding is one of the keys to having a successful school. Americans believe that funding is the biggest problem in public schools. School improvements revolve around funding. There needs to be funding not only in the successful schools but also the schools that aren’t doing as well. In documentary, Waiting for Superman, it talks about how smaller class sizes will help students. Funding is what will help the smaller class sizes. State funding mechanisms are subject to intense political and economic scrutiny (Leonard). Studies have shown that funding is inversely related to accreditation levels (Leonard). School funding needs to be increased, but there must be accountability as well.
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. They express the significance of what hard work, courage, determination, potential, and rising above and beyond can give a person who has a good education behind them. Looking at American now, one would never be able to guess that for a while education was important. Times changed and it was found that advanced knowledge and creativity was a thing to aspire too.
