As far as the movie goes, I have a feeling that the film is going to end with a tragedy. Alice Wu, the director of Saving Face, presents various conflicts in the film that involves of family, love and mostly about saving reputation. Characters have a lot of challenges where Wu uses motifs like silence and soap opera to give out sadness and bring audiences into a sad zone. When Wil, the protagonist of the film tells her mother known as Ma that she is a gay and Ma says, "I am a healthy mother and my daughter cannot be a gay. " Then Wil says to Ma, "Then I shouldn't be your daughter." and follows with silence. It is the saddest and heartbreaking thing to say to a mother and gives a sense of tragic. The movie doesn't tell us, it ends, but not before zooming in very close and slowly on the boys face. Additionally, I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves classic movies, because this classic French drama film was the first time a director had ever done this type (especially with the zooming in on the face). Furthermore, for people who say they have old movies and read subtitles I would tell them to give this one a go, it might change their minds about these types of movies, and inspire them to watch more classic movies such as this one.
The movie Dope, written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa, follows the story of Malcolm through his senior year of high school in the Inglewood California. He lives in a poor neighborhood, with only his mom, yet he still strives for greatness. He has a couple of friends, and they all love 90’s hip hop culture. They try to do their best to stay out of trouble and away from bullies. Malcolm sees a girl he likes and ends up following her to a drug dealer’s birthday party. When the cops bust the birthday party, he unknowingly goes home with all the drugs and the gun that the drug dealer owns. This sets off a wild chain reaction, as he now has to sell these drugs to payoff the supplier, who happens to be the Harvard Alumni that Malcolm’s needs approval
The 1989 film Do the Right Thing displays a story about racial tension in a predominantly African-American neighborhood. Spike Lee not only directed and produced this film but he was also the main character, Mookie. In spite of maintaining these three jobs, Lee incorporated cinematic techniques that allowed his film to unlock controversial ideals for both Caucasian and African-American viewers. Through the use of camera elements Lee was able to display emotions and tone of the scene without using stating it directly. Lee exhibited film methods such as low-angle shots, close ups, slow motion and panning.

A blood-curdling horror movie has to tell a story while incorporating specific aspects that make it into the terrifying film that attracts an audience to the theaters. Using darkness, suspense, jump scares, and horrific background music, directors are able to create a movie that scares everyone. In the soon to be released film Leatherface, all of these aspects are addressed and play an important role in how scary it will be. The trailer for the upcoming thriller/horror movie, Leatherface is successful in capturing the audience’s attention by the way it uses color, camera angles, and sound effects to create a suspenseful feeling while raising intriguing questions that will persuade people to watch the film.
In Ma Vie En Rose Ludovic is one of the four children of Pierre and Hanna Fabre who was assigned male at birth but wishes to be a girl. Ludovic 's first appearance in the movie is of her showing up to a block party with a dress and makeup on. Ludovic is rushed inside by her parents and changed into "normal" clothes, clothes boys are expected to wear. Ludovic 's parents, and the guests, were taken aback by Ludovic 's entrance and her parents tried to play their clothing choice off as a joke. This is just the start of Ludovic attempts to express her gender. I chose to analyze Despicable Me, an animated film geared towards a younger audience, because I was interested in examining underlying theories and messages that this film would be relaying to its viewers. Often times, when watching animated films, children are not aware of these messages, as they are absorbed by the characters, special effects, and humor. But as we have learned throughout this semester, our brains are subconsciously primed by the various surroundings we are exposed to. Since we also studied the impacts of entertainment, such as television and video games, on children, I wanted to see how a popular children’s film might also affect them.
Throughout the movie the director breaks down the message in clever ways and makes the message very precise and clear. In the movie the director was attempting to teach the viewers a life lesson. In order to have peace of mind and continue to actually “live” it is important that you don’t hold grudges, believe, have faith, and no matter the situation don’t ignore signs due to your stubbornness or convincing yourself otherwise when you know the truth.
