Even though my time in SlS has been only for six weeks I think that this course has truly benefited me because I have learn a great deal from all of the different speakers that have stepped into our classroom along from my professor and peer mentor . They each left me with a new perspective on how I should tackle my goals to be successful. I’ve learned that time management is key in order to get task and assignments done in a reasonable amount of time, proper note taking skills, how to work in groups and do presentations, stress management, financial decisions are also keys things that I have learned. Most importantly what I’ve gained out of this class is networking because its not about who you know its about who knows you. This stood out …show more content…
One bad event though that has happened this semester was when I got a C+ on my psychology test because I did not put in enough effort into studying so I have no one to blame but myself but I promised to myself that I would not fall off track this time around when I take my next test. I attribute my failure to get a good grade as internal because I could have gotten a better a grade if I put in more effort. I attribute going to the gym as external because I had friends pushing me to come to the gym with them and try out the different classes. Overall believe that coming for the summer semester has been one of the best experience in my life because I have met some really amazing people and have gained knowledge about so some different things. Therefore I am excited to come back in the fall and continue my journey at
Winter break was awesome and much needed. It was so tempting to just give up and not return to Pace for my spring semester, but there was still a small part of me that wanted to make my lifelong dream of living in New York City work. I returned to school slightly more optimistic and miraculously acne-free. I was determined to make spring semester my bitch. Having a better attitude and practically perfect skin definitely helped turn my college experience around. I grew closer with two of the girls of my floor and we branched out and started having more fun. Things were getting a little better, but I still wasn’t completely sold on staying at Pace. I was desperately looking for something, anything, to make me stay. Which
Without a doubt the lessons and exercises on time management were the most meaningful to me. They brought insight into why I seemed to be constantly working yet still never really got anything I wanted to accomplish throughout the day finished. I realized the majority of the activities I had been spending the most time on didn’t reflect my values of hard work and self discipline and long term academic goals to be successful in college. This motivated to completely change the way I managed my time by effectively striking a balance between my maintenance, committed, and free time.
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
At this current time I am going to continue to push myself in my classes and my networking in order to better prepare myself for my future. Another takeaway from the lecture was the idea of partnership. The presenters really opened my eyes and made me realize the truth behind partnerships. Everyone wants to go into business with their best friend until things start to not go well.
The classes I had taken for my major this semester didn’t really interest me and pull me in like I wanted them to. So I looked and researched different majors that I thought I would like and decided to change my major in my green light appointment with my academic advisor. So this is another reason why I think this semester I will do better because I would be taking classes for a different major in the spring and also I would be taking classes that interest me more than the classes I had taken in the fall
Throughout my weeks in practicum, I have already began to see what an important task self-care will be as a school counselor. My site supervisor has explained that being a counselor can be mentally draining and that she could not survive without working out. She explained to me that she takes 20 min in the morning, 20 min during her lunch (when possible), and 20 min in the evening to walk or do a slight workout in order to clear her head. She says that these workouts allow her to relieve stress and help stabilize her emotions. As I have begun to understand the emotion toll the school counselor role may take on an individual and me personally, I started to brainstorm self-care plans to upkeep my mental health.
Within the tutorials, I didn’t really know anybody and groups changed from week to week until the final project. I had to learn how to talk and interact with several types of people within a new environment. This is especially important going forward at McMaster and into the future within the work force. Procrastination was also a large issue during my time in high school. This course taught me the importance of having a set schedule to maintain a healthy work ethic, prevent work from piling up and the importance of iteration.
I can honestly say I have been loving school. I find it so interesting to learn about a subject I am truly fascinated about. It is also amazing that all my classmates have a similar passion. I have enjoyed our outings and activities we do together. However, some of the times I’ve enjoyed most are the breaks between classes. During these off times while we just sit outside together we really get to talk about life and get to know one another better. Another specific instance I can remember being really enjoyable was having a spontaneous barbeque with Ryan and Awston after a long day of studying.
This semester I learned some new techniques on how to implement a variety of health topics into a curriculum for elementary and middle school grade levels. Health education is an important topic to teach young kids because they need the skills and knowledge to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I learned that there are six different domains of health that young children should be informed about. One domain of health is physical health. Physical health is related to the health of the body.
Overall, this has been one of my favorite classes in that I can work at my own pace, make my own deadlines (besides the due dates), and communicate with others in ways I had never done before. I am more of a hands on, face to face, confrontation kind of student,
Through the last 13 weeks I have learned about whom I am and what makes me who I am. I have made some great friends not only my age but also older and younger than me. I have realized many things about myself that I never would have realized if I wouldn’t have came here. College is a whole new experience that you could never imagine unless you are there. It is nothing like you read or even that you watch on TV. It is completely different and you learn a lot about yourself as a person.
Over the course of the semester, I have learned a few things about myself. I have learned that I can be independent, I always knew myself as someone who could do mostly everything on their own. This semester really made me realize how independent I could actually be. Not only have I learned how independent I am I have also realized the importance of time management. With not having a strict class schedule it was a lot different than what I was originally used to. After a few weeks, I learned ways that would work best for me, for example writing down that I needed to get done. I learned that I need to focus on what 's ahead of me to accomplish what I want to succeed in, to manage what needs to be done ahead of time to stay caught up.
What do you expect to learn from this course that will help you develop in the areas you’ve identified?
I was able to overcome many problems and challenge myself in different aspects. At the very beginning of the year, I was very sensitive and having a bad experience meant a bad life to me. Later on, I started to realize what I am doing in school, and why I am here… I understood that life without ups and downs means you're died.
The syllabus is a commonly created and shared document in the education world (Parkes & Harris, 2010). For some high school, and most higher education courses, it is the first form of contact between an instructor and their students. The organization and content of the syllabus sets the tone of the course and stands as a resource throughout the semester or year. Continual analysis, reflection and refinement helps to maintain the syllabus as a dynamic educational resource for every student in that class (Slattery & Carlson, 2010). An effective syllabus provides, not only an introduction and overview into the course, but also outlines the academic standards and essential questions that are to be covered, shares the course schedule and
