The Russian Revolution of 1917 was a turning point in European history because it lead to the formation of the Soviet Union. With the help of the Russian people and Vladimir Lenin, Russia was able to overthrow the Czar and shift their political theory away from a monarchy. Many factors led to the rise of this rebellion and it will help contribute to the rise of communism, an idea formed by Karl Marx. With all of the changes that were occurring with WWI, the Russian revolution caused stress and damage to the citizens. During the early 1900’s, Russia was facing a depression because they had been involved in many wars, yet, had been unsuccessful in most of them. It all started in March 1917, in in St. Petersburg, this is referred to as the February revolution. Riots began among the city against the government, hoping to seek some food to get out of famine. Once the police force tried to intervene, the rioters became violent and got into a battle with the police. The uprisings were becoming out of hand to the point where the Petrograd army had to get involved. The protesters started fires, committed murders, and closed down roads, all to just overthrow the government. After Tzar Nicholas II returned from war, he realized that a revolution was occurring in his country. He stepped down from his throne on March 15th, the day that marked an end to the czarist autocracy. The Bolshevik Revolution was really the turning point. Lenin and the Bolshevik party formed their own government after their strategic overthrow of the current government. Dictator Lenin established the first communist country in the world. This did have positive effects. The Russians were able to come to mends with Germany. Also, He stabilized the economy, politics, and demolished social classes.
