Rough Guide To Climate Change Essay

Climate change is one of the most controversial issues of our century. Climate change is more than just a scientific concern, but it is also an economic concern. Climate change deals with more than just an increase in Earth’s temperature. It also deals with the issues of amount of rainfall, winds, length of seasons, and also extreme weather conditions such as droughts and flooding. Some of the most economic risk include “damage to coastal property and infrastructure from rising sea levels and increased storm surge, climate-driven changes in agricultural production and energy demand, and the impact of higher temperatures on labor productivity and public health” (Bloomberg 1). If we keep on continuing living without proper knowledge of what could …show more content…

These analyses all point to a rise of more than 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit in…air temperature of Earth over the last century” (Henson 3). The rise of just a small degree in temperature might not seem like much, but it does start to add up. It also is more serious in some areas compared to others, but besides just temperature there are numerous ways that scientist can tell that the Earth’s temperature is rising. In the arctic, large amounts of ice are melting slowly each year. According to Henson “arctic sea ice lost nearly half its average summer thickness from 1980 to 2008, and by mid-century the ice may disappear completely each summer” (4). Another way scientists can tell the temperature is rising by the change in the lengths of the seasons. Now with increasing temperatures the warmer seasons have lengthened. Bloomberg has acknowledged it is predicted “by the middle of this century, the average American will likely see 27 to 50 days over 95°F each year” (1). If nothing is changed then the number of days that reaches over 95°F will only increase. Bloomberg points out that “by the end of this century, this number will likely reach 45 to 96 days over 95°F each year on average” (1). Normally people might think longer warmer days as a good thing but what they probably do not think about is the truth of how damaging this actually is to the earth and the
