Many people had argued about whether Romeo or Paris, was a better match for Juliet in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Paris were the ones who truly loved Juliet and they wanted to marry her badly. Both Romeo and Paris made excellent lover due to their social status, but a more appropriate choice depended on their individual character traits and the impacts they had on the events in the tragedy. Anyhow, the argument was triggered because Romeo and Paris were the same in few ways.

Both of them had unlike personalities and diverse attitudes toward life. Chiefly, the natures of these two men were undeniably different. For example, Romeo was fickle. At the beginning of the play, he had been depressed and in despair because his love - Rosaline was willing to be a celibate forever instead of accepting him. However, he had fallen in love with Juliet at the first sight and forgot about Rosaline immediately as he clarified, “ I have forgot that name, and that name’s woe.” Therefore, he was unquestionably fickle. On the other hand, Paris was decisive, thus he never changed. He was certain about his choice of bride. He even insisted and replied that younger girls were already happy mothers when the Capulet graciously declined his suit to marry Juliet because she was so young. Secondly, Romeo and Paris had dissimilar attitudes toward life. Romeo was romantic and unconventional about love and marriage. He once said, “I flew over these walls with love’s light wings. Barriers of stone can’t hold back love,” as he climbed over Capulet’s orchard to see Juliet who he was in love with. He even got married to Juliet secretly. On the contrary, Paris formally asked Capulet twice about his suit to marry Juliet and he even presumptuously assumed Juliet was his wife before they even got married.
