The Greatest Love Story Many people enjoy reading romances to hear about two lovers and their story. There are countless love stories available for us to read, and many we hold dear to our hearts. There is one in particular, however, that has many controversies; Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is adored by some and is criticized by others. Why does this novel get the title of “The Greatest Love Story of all Time”? This story has too many deaths, Romeo and Juliet’s love is more of lust, and there are many other love stories out there that are arguably much better.

When he saw Juliet, however, he was overtook by her beauty, and the couple was married the very next day. “Romeo's sudden change in feelings emphasise the whimsical and spurious nature of his love. Juliet also gives into his confession of love and even proclaims “you kiss like you've studied how”.” This makes us wonder if Romeo really did love Juliet, or if he was just girl crazy. On a debate website on this subject someone went as far as to say “The story is one of lust not love. Lust that resulted in multiple deaths, not just Romeo and Juliet's.” The young couple only talked for a few minutes on a balcony before deciding to be married the very next day. This leaves us to suspect that they are marrying each other for what meets the eye instead of each other's personalities. Others may argue, however, that they married quickly because it was love at first sight. One high school teacher wrote on a discussion page that “It is called the greatest love story of all time because it was one of the first stories of this nature.
