According, to the play Romeo & Juliet it has become discovered to have many main ideas; and among all of those main ideas in the play, only two stood out most to me. One of the main ideas that stood out most to me, was the ongoing battle between love and hatred. It seems very clear and understanding to me that its two families’ hate for one another that keeps Romeo & Juliet’s love separated. Franco Zeffirelli also does a tremendous job of showing us that it is a very thin line that could be drawn separating love from hatred, which happens to be shown through both lines and characters. As us students begin to proceed from the first scene, the fighting branches from various ancient conflict – which means both families’ have their own outlook on the way things should be, and that it is true their love for their own outlook is really causing all the hatred. Juliet even walks a delicate line between choosing to love or hate Romeo after finding out he had killed her cousin Tybalt. In other words, one main idea is that it is not always a clear distinction between loving one and hating one, and love – especially selfish love could lead to hatred. The very last main idea that stood out to me is the fact that violent, passionate, and uncontrolled emotions have crypt consequences; whether these emotions are hatred or love. Again Zeffirellli demonstrates this through both characters and lines. Montague’s nephew and Romeo’s cousin, Benvolio is one of the more rational ones among all other characters who shows these intentions.
