The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) is a foundation that strive to help improve people’s overall health, as well as their healthcare. They support research that focuses on what impacts people’s health, how to better understand health, and how to improve it. The foundation has four major areas in which they work, Health Leadership, Health Systems, Healthy Communities, and Healthy Kids, Healthy Weight. Each area is broken up into subgroups all of which are aimed at improving the wellbeing of Americans. A national epidemic is occurring, the war between food and people. In the United States, about “32% of children (from 2 to 19 years old) are obese” (Bernadac 1). As the years continue to go on the rate of obese children are increasing as well. In the past the problem did not have much consideration due to a low rate of affected children. Now families are suffering the long-term consequences of having an obese child. Some of those health effects are “Heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, several types of cancer and osteoarthritis” (CDC 1). A problem with this type of drastic effects may have a solution; method prevention for the future generations and correct treatment for those who are already obese can lower the rate.

Robert Bateman was born on May 24th 1930 in Toronto, Ontario (currently 85 years old right now), he is a Canadian naturalist and painter. Even in his early days, he was fascinated by nature and art, and would record bird sightings. Robert Bateman painted nature in a representational style all the way until his teens, when he switched over to a more post-impressionism and abstract style. He found inspiration from the Group of Seven, and was interested in abstract paintings of nature. Factors such as food choices and fitness levels are contributing greatly to this problem. Obese children eventually become obese adults and bring along with them many adverse medical conditions. These medical conditions such as diabetes are known to be severe and place a shorter life expectancy on the people it affects. Raymond Scott was a musician who made music for movies in Hollywood in the 1930’s with his “Raymond Scott Quintette,” and then with a larger band. His most recognizable song, “Powerhouse,” was used often in Looney Toons and other Warner Bros. cartoons. He rose to fame and fortune, but became bored with popular music. His true passion was analog electronic music. In 1946, he founded Manhattan Research Inc., which was "More than a think factory–a dream center where the excitement of tomorrow is made available today." He filled all four stories of his house with equipment and synthesizers he had built. His magnum opus was “The Electronium,” an artificially intelligent electronic music composer. Scott released multiple experimental albums and T.V. and radio commercials. These albums were a new, strange, and eerie electronic sound.
Some researchers claim that more than 300,000 Americans are dying due to obesity every year and the number is rising annually. That is a huge number and it can be fixed a number of ways but some individuals are lazy some can’t lose the weight because of medical reason. Obesity causes disease from diabetes to heart disease and in some cases death. Obesity in children is growing problems to children who are obese have a higher chance to get diabetes or heart failure. The school environment is one of several settings that can influence children’s food choices and eating habits. Schools can ensure that the available food and beverage options are healthy and help young people eat food that meets dietary recommendations for fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nonfat or low-fat dairy products.
The struggle is real in today’s society and social determinants are the issue. Social determinants and childhood obesity they are also related to political aspects as well. There are key indicators that help explain the areas that could evolve into issues in childhood obesity. The key indicators will also help address issues and give answers to solutions among this healthcare issue. Reaching out to people is one of the best ways to promote awareness in childhood obesity.
Daniel Weintraub, in his article, "The battle against fast food begins in the home", proclaimed that parents are to blame for childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is important because it affects 26 percent of school children. We should care about obesity in children because if parents take responsibility for their children’s unhealthy lifestyle then obesity wouldn 't be very common throughout children. Basically, what is at stake here is he many risk factors of childhood obesity, such as diabetes and stroke. My discussion will address the fact that initially parents are the ones who are supposed to instill good eating habits, encourage physical activities, and to serve as role models for their children.
