The purpose of the book was to help people better understand the issue of gun control in the United States, and how the second amendment that was made when the country was first being built has now been translated to fit the ideas of different groups. The Author Saul Cornell is one of the nation’s leading authorities on early American constitutional thoughts. Because of this his work has been cited by both the states supreme courts and United States Supreme Court this makes him the perfect author to discuss the second amendment.(1) The Author thesis was “Neither of the two modern theories that have defined public debate over the right to bear arms is faithful to the original understanding of this provisions of the bill of rights.”(Page 6) This means that he stands that neither side is right because neither follow the original reason why the right to bear arms was added to the bill of rights in the first place. It helped better understand what the original right to bear arms actually meant and not what specific groups made it sound like . It added fuel to the fire for both sides in which now the readers have a better understanding where the groups got their ideas from because they did not get the ideas from the original amendment but ideas that were made later on in history of the united states. I would recommend this book to the people who are trying t understand the conflict that is in the united states over guns because it really helps to not only inform the readers of events that have lead up to where the main ideas for and against guns groups where originally made. I would also like to recommend voters who may be voting for a certain gun law in their state or maybe the whole united states for they can be informed in what they are voting for or
