Review of Research Skills and Experience
This essay will help me examine my experience with research and any skills I have learned along the way. I think this process will evoke many emotions; such as intimidation, anxiety, fear, and excitement. We all have strengths and weaknesses, some we know and others we do not. I do not know what I do not know yet; but I will learn many things as I move forward.
There are many things I do well. I tend to learn fast, can apply knowledge in practical ways, and am willing to keep trying until I succeed. I hope all of these skills will help me learn the mechanics of writing a proper research paper worthy of receiving an acceptable grade. This is a learning process so I am trying to remind myself to keep my

I think I will learn about new strengths and weaknesses as I complete the signature assignment. The areas I discover are lacking, I will try to make improvements; the areas I discover are competent, I will try to utilize to benefit the composition of my final paper.
Challenges
There are many challenges that come along with completing a proper research paper. While I have submitted several essay papers with success since enrolling at Ottawa, I have never done anything close to a formal research paper before. I have a lot to learn, but the upcoming course progression looks very helpful in building the knowledge necessary to complete the signature assignment in an appropriate manner.
I think I will have to review the tutorials included with the weekly materials several times to ensure that I am working through the process in the right way. I will submit a draft to the writing center for feedback with ample time to make edits that I am sure will be necessary. I will also incorporate any feedback I get from fellow classmates after they get a chance to review it as part of the week 6

Explaining an idea requires more than just compiling lots of data. I believe I can organize the information in a usable way to foster understanding by others. I have experience doing this; writing operating procedures for projects and managing a diverse staff performing the work with a variety of responsibilities.
Research Mechanics
I believe the hardest part of writing the research paper will be selecting a topic. There are an endless array of subjects and even subsets that make choosing feel like I am falling down the rabbit hole. Even with the assignment being limited to two breadth areas, most of the topics can be either too broad or too narrow. It is hard to decide where to start and where to go next.
I have learned a lot already from the week one materials. I will be able to utilize many of the skills I gained in the Liberal Arts I Seminar; like critical thinking for analyzing research data and using the APA formatting and referencing requirements correctly. Putting research and findings from someone else into my own words will be another learning experience, but I

Well lets see, “ how will I apply the tips I have learned in this week's assignment?” (unit 1 homework) There is a lot of tips and information in the paper I just read. It is all very good information and helpful, I know it will come in handy not only in this assignment but in all my work throughout this program. I learned the different ways people learn and think and how to work at being those kinds of thinkers and apply that to the papers I write. There is a lot of information out there, knowing where to look is very important and knowing how to incorporate your research is a must. Knowing your subject in and out and the proper way to do so is also important, to write a well informed paper. What I have read will help me with that also.
The answer lies in the perfect formula, mastered through trial and error, to arrange success. Now listen closely. The trick was to use the exact same writing style and essay structure that got me the grade I wanted freshman year, all throughout high school. As long as I got a decent grade, my writing skills would be good enough. Why would I seek improvement, when the end product would be praised? Unconsciously, I was getting into a habit of a fixed
Being able to write an exceptionally good paper is important to me in keeping my “A” for English class. There are so many resources available that can help in identifying and improving our weakest skill areas so we can write a properly structured paper. I was able to find many helpful resources that have helped to improve my skill areas in achieving unity in a paper, improving grammatical errors and expanding my vocabulary, and writing a rhetorical analysis,. Many of my resources come from the internet and some came from our textbook, “The Little Seagull.” These resources have been very beneficial to me and have helped me to better understand the mechanics of a well written paper.
I have gained the experiences through a variety of my classes and internships. Through my classes and internships, I am able to gather data and record information about a child’s development, learned to use scientific tools and methods to test hypothesis and construct a research paper. I also learned to evaluate the observations of the children and their stage of development. In addition, I learned how to search for something using different key words. For instance, for my research paper for CHLD 353, I constructed a research paper with a partner about the relationship between authoritative parenting style and parental expectations. My partner and I were given helpful advice to use keywords to search for scholarly articles completed by other
My journey through high school as a writer has been quite fruitful. I have refined many of weaknesses, including organizations and introductions, and am still perfectly some as I go, like time management and conclusions. I learned that there is no such thing as a perfect paper; there is always room for improvement in my writing skills. Also, I have learned to see my writing through different perspectives and portray abstract concepts in my work. In the years to come, I hope to learn even more from my instructors and develop a unique writing
Overall this semester, I believe my writing in this course has been one of my strongest areas and I am excited to keep getting better at this skill. With my mother’s help during middle and high school, my papers have improved significantly and now I think I have a firm grasp on writing for various disciplines, but particularly professional settings like social work. I picked up on APA format quickly after doing MLA for several years and it now feels like second nature to me. There are certainly still formatting areas to improve upon and learn more about, but at this stage, I think I am progressing steadily. Thirdly, I am able to find appropriate sources easily to reference in my activity analyses, which is crucial as I advance in the program.
For the forty odd pages we wrote for this class, I feel that the overall achievement was getting practice. I wasn’t required to write many papers in high school so for me the constant writing was helpful for me. I can really tell a difference in the way that I write now from the way that I wrote at the start of this year. I’m really looking forward to next year, because seeing yourself improve over a short amount of time really is
Research represents my favorite topic discussed during the honors colloquium, and because of this I chose it to be the topic of my capstone project. Prior to becoming an FSU student, I had absolutely no experience with research. I possessed only a nebulous idea of what constituted research and the ability of undergraduate students to involve themselves in it. On my first day of class of last semester (my first day as an FSU student!), I overheard my psychology professor discussing DIS opportunities with a student and immediately knew this was something I should participate in.

At the start of this class, I made a goal to develop my writing skills to better prepare me for other courses for my degree. I knew English 106 would be different compared to any other English or college courses that I have taken. I knew English 106 environment will let me grow in diverse writing dimensions. My long serving years of experience in the military has exposed me to many cultures around the globe. In just seven weeks of the course, I have seen some improvement in my writing. This course has afforded me with several techniques that have made writing not only a little bit easier but also more in-depth resulting in a higher level of academic writing versus my normal military style writing. Now I understand the writing process and
Finally, research must be intriguing and enjoyable to the researcher. One must have a thirst for learning and intellectual stimulation. One must have a passion for the research questions being explored and a tenacity in answering them. One must be open minded to new solutions and ways of thinking, yet persistent in communicating their perspectives and conclusions. One must love to research, and if it is going to mean anything to anyone, one must love to write.
That yearning to comprehend the numerous aspects of the scientific world still exists within me today. Unfortunately, I have not yet had the experience of working in the research industry. I have spent the majority of the time in my life exploring my interests without truly delving into one specific area of focus. Due to this fact, I was reluctant towards the prospect of dedicating all of my attention to research.
... I was able to extend more on researching and writing to join a scholarly conversation about any topic and not just simply reporting any first facts. Due to the writing rubric, I believe that I stand in the range of a B. I put all effort into each paper that I write, and I make sure that they are handed in or posted on the due date. I never slack during work
In order to advance a field and develop new concepts it is vital that one understands what has already been proposed and looked at in the past. This is why understanding the theories and principles that are already in place are so very important. There is no point in trying to reinvent the wheel if it is really not necessary. A good researcher should be able to develop what has already been done in order to move forward the thinking within the discipline. This is what I hope to be able to do with my research.
