Infancy (birth- 3 years) – My interview subject, Elizabeth Boone, was born on August 12, 1938 and is now 77 years old. She was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Although she does not remember anything when she was an infant, she was told by her mother that she was a happy healthy baby. Early childhood (3-6 years) – Mrs. Boone’s mother was a housewife and her father worked in an oil company. She remembers only a few events that happened in her early childhood. Her brother Jacob was born when she was 4 years old. She was told by her mother that she was very curious and active, and always wanted to ask questions. Boone recalls few memories. At the age of 7, she remembers she met her best friend, Jennifer Luna, who lived next to her grandparents’ house. They always had sleepovers on Friday night and played dress up by using Jennifer mother’s makeup and wardrobe. In early December, Mrs. Boone also remembers eating breakfast with her family and looking through the comic sections of the newspaper. She found an ad titled “Toys for Little Cooks,” and asked for a steel kitchen cabinet which only costed eighty-nine cents. Boone was about 34 years old and became a truck driver. She wanted an active hands-on career and was tired of the same routines that involved dropping her kids to school, works for nine hours, then go home and cook for her family. Although there was the massive stress of being involved in her children’s life and commit in her marriage, Mrs. Boone enjoyed her job and made a fairly good salary to support her family. For two years, she always called her family every day and still committed to her role as a mother and wife. Regardless if she recently came home from traveling in another state, she made time to give her children advice for their crisis or attend their football game and have a date night with her husband.
