Asthma is a condition in which a person’s airways become inflamed, narrow and swell, and produce extra mucus, which makes it difficult to breathe. Asthma is classified according to the frequency of symptoms, forced expiratory volume in one second, and peak expiratory flow rate. It can last for a few years or it can be lifelong. Other serious conditions occur with asthma include gastro-esophageal reflux disease, rhinosinusitis, and obstructive sleep apnea. Some of the symptoms are difficulty breathing, chest pain, cough, and wheezing. Some people experience coughing at night.
