“Playwrights teach us nothing about love. They make is pretty, they make it comical, or they make it lust, but they cannot make it true.” Romeo and Juliet does show a true representation of love instead of making it comical, lust, or pretty. Unlike other plays that show love to be something that is desired, the love that is in Romeo and Juliet shows not only the lust for it, but the hardships that come with it. The main way that this can see this is Romeo and Juliet is throughout the entire play through the struggle of both Romeo and Juliet trying to find love through the feud that their families have. “Tis but thy name that is my enemy.” (Romeo and Juliet, Juliet, Act 2, Scene 2, Line 38). Furthermore, the story given in the play of Romeo and Juliet, shows the entire cycle that most “real” love stories take. From the beginning when they first meet each other and fall in love, to the point where they die because of that same love. There are also all of the small details that are shown in between, such as the marriage between them, and the fight that took place so that they could stay together even after Romeo had been banished to Mantua, “And for that offence, immediately we do exile him hence.” (Romeo and Juliet, Prince Capulet, Act 3, Scene 1, Line 183- 184). He has bought me for you. He returns from his estates to see us married two weeks from Saturday. (Pause) You are allowed to show your pleasure.” (Shakespeare in Love, Wessex). Unlike the quote from Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love, “Playwrights teach us nothing about love. They make it pretty, they make it comical, or they make it list, but they cannot make it true.” Shakespeare in Love shows us the tragedies, and dark moments that come with love, not simply the good parts. Furthermore, just like in Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare in Love gives us the full cycle that a “real” love story takes. Starting off when they first meet each other and fall in love, to the point where something highly significant happens that separates them. In the case of Shakespeare in Love it starts out when Shakespeare pursues Kent into Viola’s house, and he discovers that
