1 Romeo and Juliet 2 William Shakespeare between 1591 and 1596 3 England 4Romeo- Romeo is the most famous Montague there is. At first he loves Rosaline, but later falls in love with Juliet. Romeo is very fickle when it comes to love and falls quickly in and out of it. Juliet- Juliet is a Capulet and the love of Romeo. She is also the love interest of Paris but despises him very much. Juliet much like Romeo is very fickle when it comes to emotions. Friar Laurence- The Friar is a friend of Romeo. Friar Laurence is the guy Romeo comes to when he has a problem. He is also a very intelligent botanist who is very passionate about his work. Mercutio- Mercutio is possibly Romeos friend because he is nearly always there for him. Mercutio is very passionate and is almost always fighting. Mercutio is also very defensive over his friends especially Romeo. Prince Escalus- Prince Escalus is the prince of Verona. He is constantly trying to keep his subjects in line. His first speach in the play makes it clear that he is the boss. Tybalt- Tybalt is a member of the Capulet family. He has a very hot temper and especially hates the Montagues. He is angered when he learns that Romeo showed up at the Capulet feast. Benvolio- Benvolio is a member of the Montague family and he is also Romeo’s best friend. He tries to help Romeo get over his love with Rosaline by taking him to the Capulet party to see other hot women. 5Verona is the main setting of this play. It is situated in Italy and is controlled by Prince Escalus. This setting contains many smaller settings including both family’s houses , Verona’s streets, and the Capulet’s tomb. Mantua is a lesser setting in the play. It is where Romeo is banished to when he kills Tybalt. It is also the place where Juliet plans to flee to live with Romeo. This is the worst place for Romeo because he cannot be with Juliet there. 6 Act 1- Act 1 starts with a prologue that tells us what is to happen in this play. The first scenes takes place in the streets of Verona where servants of the two households break into fighting and warned by the prince that if it happened again death would come to both houses. In Scene 2 both parties agree not to fight and we learn that Paris wishes to marry Juliet but her father thinks she is to young.
Mercutio is a confusing character. He rarely seems to hate anybody yet he is almost always “Hot-headed;” getting into fights and losing his patience towards others.
Romeo and Juliet Although Romeo and Juliet become inextricably smitten with one another, they both enter into the relationship from different perspectives. Their love is strong, but each has their reasons for the intensity of their love. Romeo has just come out of another ?crush?. He has liked Rosaline for quite awhile, but things do not work out because the feelings are not mutual. Romeo sees that Juliet is a beautiful lady that he falls in love with right away, while he attends the Capulet Party. Juliet also instantly falls in love with Romeo, but it could be more of an escape for her.
During Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is under the influence of Mercutio with his joking air, Benvilo with his peaceful manner, and Juliet with her loving attitude. Mercutio often raises his spirits and give Romeo more confidence in himself. Benvolio helps to keep Romeo calm and reasonable throughout each of his ordeals. Finally, Juliet provides him with hope through her undying love for him. Romeo is often swayed by many characters, but he is swayed by those whom he keeps closest to him and he loves the most.
To begin, Benvolio who is a part of the Montague family and the cousin of Romeo played a huge role in the tragic end of the two young lovers. In the story's beginning he is shown to be engaged in a fight with the Tybalt Capulet. He stated that, "I do but keep the peace. Put up thy sword, or manage it to part these men with me."(i.i, 69-70) One of the main reasons why Romeo and Juliet had a tragic ending was because of the feud between the families. When Benvolio participated in this feud through his fight with Tybalt, he became a part of the problem. If Benvolio had decided he was above the feud and refused to engage in it, the future of Romeo and Juliet's relationship could have been different since they would not have to hide themselves from their family. Also, Benvolio was the person who persuaded Romeo to go to the masked feast to get over Rosaline. He told Romeo, "By giving liberty unto thine eyes. Examine other beauties."(i.i, 235-236) Romeo met Juliet at the masked ball which happened only because of Benvolio's persuasion. If Benvolio had decided to take Romeo somewhere else rather than the masked feast, Romeo most likely would have never met Juliet ...
Romeo son of Lord and Lady Montague is impulsive and romantic when the subject is love. Young Romeo loves the fact of being “in love” with anyone. After Romeo’s breakup with Rosaline he was confident that he would never love anyone again until he saw Juliet. When the couple spotted each other they slowly found themselves in a corner by there selves. Before the two even get a chance to know each other Romeo makes the first move "'O, then dear saint, let lips do what hands do! (Shakespeare 1.4.1016).’" However Juliet hesitates towards Romeo’s gestures because she doesn’t know who Romeo is. Then, Romeo continues with his romantic statements and the two kiss. Although Romeo is romantic, he is also very impulsive. After meeting Juliet Romeo was in love after just breaking up with Rosaline. When Romeo talks to Friar Laurence he explains “‘Then plainly know my heart’s dear love is set On the fair daughter of rich Capulet’ As mine on hers, so hers is set on mine, And all combined, save what thou must combine By holy marriage. When, and where, and how We met, we wooed, and made exchange of vow, I’ll tell thee as we pass;but this I pray, That thou consent to marry us today, (Shakespeare 2.3.1030).”’Romeo is making rushed decisions upon his relationship Juliet when he wasn’t know her for along time, and doesn’t even know if his feelings are real for Juliet. Romeo is j...
Capulet and Romeo Montague, face a bigger problem; forbidden love. Taking place in Verona, an ignorant Romeo first meets a childish Juliet at the Capulet’s party. Romeo and his kinsman, Benvolio, attend the party masked, searching for his first love, Rosaline. Coincidentally, Romeo meets Juliet, a new beauty, and falls in love with her not knowing the fact that she is a Capulet. The feud continues, leading one mistake after another, until both families realize their selfishness at the last minute. The unfortunate tragedy of two “star-crossed lovers” is ironically caused by the impetuosity of Romeo and Juliet themselves (Shakespeare 7).
Prior to this scene, Shakespeare shows an insight into each character. Tybalt is portrayed as a hostile character that has extreme hatred towards the Montague’s. He is very protective of his family and this is seen in his aggression and willingness to fight:
Romeo is a well-known citizen in Verona. His family, the Montagues, have a high social status in their area of Italy. The family
In Romeo and Juliet it stays true that the noble character Benvolio knows the diversity between what to do and what not to do. Benvolio is the character to help others out of situations that can be heated, and offering guidance when needed.Although in Act 3,of the play during the fight between the Capulet and Montague it drove how Benvolio was a deceiver to his friends. Benvolio's character reflects on many people today, showing that there is good and bad in the world;and as people we need to learn how to help each other when situations go
In William Shakespeare's “Romeo And Juliet” Romeo is the main character. He is Montague's son. Which means he is the son of his loves enemy, the Capulets. Romeo is very depressed, he is very negative, impulsive, anxious, emotional, and he is a rebel. Romeo is stupid if he would have taken it slow and not rushed things with Juliet they might still be alive. Due to Romeo and Juliet's mad love for eachother, and their families hatred towards each other they died.
Lurhmann sets the film in a fictitious border city between the United States and Mexico. The city is called ‘Verona’ so it maintains its original name from the play. It is extremely built-up and urban just like New York or London so that a modern audience can relate to the film and understand where the film is set. In other modern films, a big urban city is usually the setting where there are big gang rivalries and Lurhmann makes this clear by showing that the Montague’s and Capulet’s are the big two families in the city and they are not to be reckoned with.
Montague and his wife discuss Romeo’s strange behavior with Benvolio and ask him why he is acting that way. They find Romeo and have Benvolio talk to him. Benvolio advises him to forget Rosaline, but Romeo refuses.
It was a hot summer day in the town square of Verona when the two households came face to face, both feeling and showing their emnity. In the play of Romeo and Juliet, written by Shakespeare, Tybalt wishes to fight Romeo and since Romeo is refusing to battle him, Mercutio steps up and takes Romeo's place. Benvolio is, like always, begging and pleading for them to keep the peace. All through the tale, Romeo's best friends, Benvolio and Mercutio, try to help Romeo with their own particular methods. Surprisingly, there are no characters that differ from each other more than Benvolio and Mercutio. Although Benvolio and Mercutio are alike because they are both very loyal to Romeo, they are different because Benvolio is calm, level-headed, and honest and Mercutio tends to be a sarcastic, wild person who follows his emotions more than his common sense.
Romeo is a static character who can’t keep himself from falling in love. Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, it’s a play based upon a 16 year old boy who can’t keep himself from falling in love with a 13 year old girl. Romeo is not one to fight but on to love, he’ll go as far as to death for her. Romeo lives in the middle of a violent feud between his family and the Capulets. Romeo is a lover, not a fighter, his only interest is love. Romeo is smart, impulsive and immature. Since Romeo loves Juliet, he affects the characters negatively causing them to fight.
Juliet's first introduction was in Act 1, Scene 3, establishes the fact that she does not think about getting married, and love. Lord Capulet asks Juliet what she thinks about marriage and Juliet replies "it is an honour that I dream not of (1.3.67)." Later in the same scene, Juliet's mother asks her if she can "like of Paris' love(1.3.97)?" Juliet replies that she will "look to like (1.3.98)", but she does not use the word love. In Act 1, Scene 5, Juliet meets Romeo for the first time and he kisses her. At first she tries to avoid having him kiss her hand, playing with his imagery of the pilgrim and the saint, but she then allows him to kiss her. Juliet's interest in Romeo is different from the indifference she shows in 1.3, when she is talking to her mother. Juliet is beginning to consider love, because she is starting to fall in love with Romeo.
