My artist is Leonardo da Vinci. He was born on April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy. The famous artist died on May 2, 1519 in Amboise, France. While he was alive he was a part of the Renaissance style of art. I decided to pick da Vinci because I don’t know that much about art history but the name Leonardo da Vinci stands out to everyone so I figured it would be interesting to learn about one of the most influential artists in history. When Leonardo was born his father, Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci took custody of him while his mother, Caterina da Vinci went off and married another man. By the age of 15 is when da Vinci’s talents really start to shine. The soon to be prestigious artist got his first real chance when he was to paint an angel in “Verrochio’s Baptism of Christ”. Verrochio was at the time a well regarded artist himself. When da Vinci was finished, his work was so much better than his masters that Verrochio actually swore to never paint again. After that work da Vinci was in search of new challenges and his break financially da Vinci entered the service of the Duke of Milan. The job was nice but it wasn’t what Leonardo wanted. The Duke kept him busy by painting, sculpting and designing court festivals but Leonardo didn’t have much freedom in his work. Soon after, da Vinci started to break out on his own and do his own thing. One dilemma da Vinci faced was that with his interest not being focused on one thing, he found himself not finishing works and always starting new ones. His inability to finish his work became the result of only finishing six works of art in 17 years. Although da Vinci struggled to finish his work he didn’t struggle to keep track of it. Between 1490 and 1495 da Vinci began recording his work into v... ... middle of paper ... ...man named Costanza d’Avalos and an unnamed courtesan but there is no facts to prove any of them up. It’s my favorite work for that reason, because it is so famous but yet no one really knows much about it. Da Vinci’s work has been so important because it has shown so much uniqueness and diversity for just one artist. His work has influenced other artists to try different styles and not just stick with one thing the whole time, using different styles gives you more options and helps artists find their true potential. Da Vinci is so important to history because he set a path for artist to later come to follow; his work has and always will be known as some of the most unique and best work ever. Da Vinci has helped me as an artist because he shows artists don’t have to just be good at one thing, they can have a wide variety of talents and be successful at all of them.
