“Religion is like a pair of shoes. Find one that fits you, but don’t make me wear your shoes.” George Carlin said this and I think he is right, people in our world our making us wear their shoes and practice their religion. Our world isn’t free unless we all can practice, whatever religion we believe, without getting hurt. Many people don’t understand the importance of Religious Freedom, and why we have it. Religious Freedom is essential and it is being threatened.

Religious Freedom is the freedom to practice your own religion. First, we have this freedom because of our Founding Fathers. The first amendment of the Constitution says,” Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise.” Unfortunately, around the world some people are not as lucky as us, and don’t have religious freedom. Pope Benedict 16 and our Founding Fathers were extraordinary leaders that have stood up for religious freedom. That is what Religious Freedom is.

Our Religious Freedom is being threatened today in many ways. One big way it is being threatened is by the mandate that the Health and Human Services issued under Obamacare. The mandate requires all employer health plans to provide free sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs to the patients no matter what their religion is. This is wrong because these people are being forced to take abortion drugs even if their religion doesn’t want them to. There is also a more alarming problem, the federal government is claiming the right to decide for religious institutions what constitutes their ministry. These are only some of the ways our freedom is being threatened.

...y, we need to take action now and stand up for the unfortunate people who don’t have freedom of religion. Remember, find a pair of shoes that fits you, but don’t make me wear shoes.
